This man deserves a medal. Where it not for his armed resistance, the number of deaths would have been much higher.

Once the shooter received armed resistance, that is when he ended it. That is how it goes in most active shooter scenarios. Once they are resisted, they give up or kill them selves.

This is how it's done flood. This is why people carry.

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

Unfortunately, I don't think this story is going to get the coverage it deserves.

You know what's even worse?

When the boy you like has a girlfriend.

"He was working on his rifle," said Meli. "He kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side."

The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.
Let this be a lesson, Flood. If you're gonna shoot up a mall, know how to clear a jam properly.

Good on you, Nick Meli. Good on you.

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

Thank you, Spartan. My condolences for you being stuck in California.

Welcome to the "post massacre copy cat storm" effect. This happens almost every damn time. A slight increase in the number of attempted large shootings, along with the media realizing they get more views if they cover similar stories to the biggest recent event.

I kinda agree, but maybe the damage was lessened.

...How?

It's in Clackamas.

A shooting that was in progress was stopped.

And, if teh puma recalls this correctly... the man was a legally carrying civilian... right?

People still died, but more people likely would have died if he was able to clear the jam and continue on his rampage.

He encountered the armed civilian once he hit his jam. He cleared the jam and ended him self right there.

Generally once an active shooter encounters resistance, they either give up or kill them selves. It stops being a shooting gallery then.

The point is that carrying civilians don't prevent these incidents, they just stop them before more people die.

What we need to work on in our society is prevention, not stopping it once it's already in progress.

The shooting did end, but not necessarily because of the carrying civilian, had he shot the guy that would be entirely accurate. But for all we know the shooter had already decided to kill himself at that point.

Basically I'm saying you can say he helped end it, but you can't say he stopped it.

Prevention only goes but so far. Nice job on outlining what prevention is, by the way. Totally clear.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Poor guy. I bet it was a tough decision. I just can't believe it is the 21st century and a country such as America have their people carrying a gun in a public area if they so wish to because of "muh' rights!". Ridiculous.

Of course not, When any US gun owner stops a crime he gets 15 minutes on the local news, But when some insane person goes on a rampage the national news talks about gun control for weeks...

I also hate how journalist think everything is an "Assault weapon"

I'm not a professional. I don't know how to implement positive change that would increase prevention of such incidents. That's why we have politicians and lawmakers; that's their job.
