Subject: The Hobbit. My /opinion

I really thought it was a good movie. Where Peter Jackson failed in LotR to tell us the whole story,(Tom Bombadil, Recapturing of the Shire), he has done a good job of telling the whole story, even with actual book quotes (!).

I really like that the story of Radagast and the necromancer is highlighted more. Also, the action and fighting scenes are pretty well done, especially the Dwarf team-work. (Stone giants (!!!!))

The Orcs have gad a very improvement too, I really like the way they look now! (less childish)

The only negative points are the copy pastes from LotR, like the ring magically falling over Bilbo's finger, and the angry Gandalf.
Also I don't like the attemts to be funny. Some of the jokes are just not funny, an slow down the story. Like the killing of the Goblin King, it's just not funny or heroic anymore when he starts making jokes seconds before he dies.

All in all, I thought it was a surprisingly good movie, and I would really reccomend everyone to go watch it!

I also recommend to read the book before watching, as that really makes the story more comprehensible and enjoyable.

Agree with jokes being annoying. Disagree with orcs looking better. Disagree with ring "copy and paste," considering the ring IS magical and wants to be on his finger. Awesome movie.

ok?

Where Peter Jackson failed in LotR to tell us the whole story
That's why LotR is a sequel to the book, The Hobbit.

He couldn't fit all that into the movie length, and neither were significant to the main plot, which was destroying the ring. There's only so much you can put into three movies.

It's dumbing down the plot, i thought it would've been a more serious movie.

Disagree with orcs looking better.

i like them being more diverse, more... Real.

Disagree with ring "copy and paste," considering the ring IS magical and wants to be on his finger.

Yeah, but the scene with Frodo in the prawncing pony, and bilbo in the cave i too equal.

Recapturing of the Shire)

The problem with that is that in a movie that sort of ending would feel anti-climatic.
Already in ROTK we were given several endings.
With the scourging of the Shire we'd be given several climaxes.

Yeah, but what about this one MASSIVE plot hole? dafuq happened to Saruman? Never mentioned in the movies anymore.

Have you seen the extended edition?!?! They kill him off at Isengard so that there isn't any questioning as to what happens after the ring is destroyed.

That isn't failure, there is just only so much you can put into movies with a time limit. He told the main points of the story, and did so well

I liked most of the jokes. They gave Bilbo a human element that allowed you to connect with him and showed off how he dealt with tough situations through the outlet of humor.

In the films he is imprisoned in his tower, under watch by the Ents.

I don't think you know that The hobbit isn't part of the LotR trilogy

Maybe "fail" isn't the right word... let me explain. i meant that he couldn't bring it to us, and that is a shame, but i don't blame him. i also liked LotR VERY much!

Just because there is variation between the events of the films and the books does not make it a plot hole. In the film universe Saurumon's story ends in the tower. He is at the mercy of the Ents, the end. There are no holes in the plot

I liked it.

Tom Bombadill was a throwaway character based off a doll Tolkiens kids played with. You can literally skip his chapter and miss nothing of any importance. Having him the film would be a waste of time.

The Scouring of The Shire is another pointless event that Jackson wisely left out of the films. Having the heroes return to a destroyed Shire was ALWAYS a stupid thing to have happen. I understand that it was about showing that Hobbits can fight for the things they love, but that is NOT needed after defeating Sauron as if makes the latter seem less important than the former. As it is people -blam!-ed and moaned about the multiple endings and ANOTHER wouldn't help anything.

edit: It seems that OP has not seen the extended editions of the films. The extended cut of ROTK shows what happens to Saurman.

On that note did anyone else notice that the trailers for AUJ featured scenes NOT in the film. The most obvious example is Gandalf in Dol-Guldur. Teases for extended cut?

I really like how they did the 3d. Instead of doing that token black -blam!- that pops out at you. They made every scene in 3d.
