If I go to a doctor I don't want to see him smoking and giving me health advice because quite honestly I won't take any of his advice.

Same with fat doctors saying you need to lose weight I mean that's hypocritical.

As far as im concerned the people who work in hospitals and doctors surgeries and dentists have the obligation to work by example.

Would you trust a dentist that smoked?? No you wouldn't. Don't get me wrong some people are overweight by medical problems they cannot help but 90% of overweight people cause that problem themselves.

Lead by example not hide behind the "Im a doctor/nurse so trust me".

You're either trolling or just an idiot.

I don't think a doctor needs to be a prime example of health to give advice.

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

Fat people can if they want. It may not even be their fault they are heavy. I can kind of understand your point about smokers but, a job shouldn't be denied over a personal preference.

in·dif·fer·ence
the fact or state of being indifferent; lack of care or concern and empathy demonstrated by an absence of emotional reactions.

If they're good at their job then why not?

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

OP, your appendix just exploded, and the only surgeon available smokes cigarettes. What do you do?

They call me graland.

I don't think ugly people should be doctors, either. When I go to see them I don't want to repulsed by their faces.

I see no reason not to trust a dentist that smokes. Although if they smell like shit ( all smokers smell like shit ) I would not use them.

For example my doctor is overweight, my mum went into see him about her knee which got damaged around 7 years ago and before she sits down he says "You need to lose weight" and thats it.

Don't get me wrong my mum isn't the epitome of fitness or slim but she is smaller than him weight wise and she fell down a hole 7 years ago which caused her knee to have problems.

Its rather insulting to have somebody heavier than you to say "lose weight" for every problem.

Teeth turn yellow and can fall out with excessive smoking no matter how much you brush.

And the guy is telling you to brush twice a day for healthy teeth doesn't strike you as odd?

If mine did I would go to another dentist, I don't like hypocrites.
My current one says he brushes his 3 times a day, that's tolerable because I think "Im not doing it 3 times 1 is enough".

No its not, i'll put it this way.

I worked in a school with a fat teacher who was teaching dance. Now dance is considered exercise and yet she is fat and teaching others how to dance.

That is a massive contradiction, just like a dentist smoking and a fat doctor saying there is an obesity epidemic.

It's a free country. Supply and demand dictates whether or not people want unhealthy doctors.

"Hello. My name is Stephen Hawking. Physicist, cosmologist, and something of a dreamer. Although I cannot move, and I have to speak through a computer, in my mind, I am free. Free to explore the universe, and ask the big questions."

I agree, to an extent.
I would not trust a smoker to give me advice on a healthy lifestyle, and I would not trust someone who was overweight(purely overweight due to poor diet and exercise, mind you. Not someone who was overweight to a genetic or environmental factor) to give me advice about a healthy diet.
However, either of those people could still be a competent surgeon, or such a thing.

If you don't take your Doctors advice because they are unhealthy then quite honestly, humanity is better off without you.

No but if a certain activity is suppose to make you fit the last person you hire is somebody who is the opposite of what your trying to achieve.

I mean if your telling a class the exercise your doing is going to make you lose weight and the instructor is doing the same as you, that is going to make it look like a scam or something.

The image your present is a powerful thing, dentists have great teeth, people teach exercise classes are slim and toned.

Police are meant to be fit including soldiers, ambulance drivers/medics and firefighters.

Yet in hospitals and doctors sugeries you have fat doctors and nurses walking around and smoking at the entrance of a hospital.

  • 12.15.2012 3:58 PM PDT

You aren't the Doctor though, they are. Don't worry about them, that isn't your job. It is their job to care for you.

Hypocritical or not it isn't untrue.

I didn't say I don't trust them you just think "you want me to lose weight and yet your bigger than me??".

Doesn't set a good example.
