Subject: Shakey Cam and Bullet Time: Things that bother you about movies

So as of the last couple of years, movies have shared some qualities that have recently started to bother me.

One of them is what I like to call "Shakey Cam" where the camera moves around, zooms in, and moves around constantly to make it feel like the scene is intense. You get a lot of this especially during fight scenes. It bothers me simply because it seems like there's no real fighting going on or it could simply trick you into thinking that the fight is intense, but the actual choreography of the fighting wasn't good enough to have the camera still.

Another movie "technique" that has recently started bothering me is the use of "Bullet Time" (made famous by the Matrix), where the action slows down to a crawl. I get it, sometimes you want to show details, or slow down something to make it more dramatic, but I've felt some movies over use this way too much that it actually takes away from the intensity of the action. It normally goes from bullet time, to normal, to bullet time, to normal, end scene.

So Flood, are there other movie techniques that bother you or simply don't like in recent movies?

somewhat the same thing for me, i hate it when you can't even tell what's going on in a fight, I don't know whether it's because of the camera angles or movements, but it bugs the crap out of me.

The intention of the shaky cam is to immerse you, like someone is actually there filming it on the spot.

Funnily enough, it breaks immersion for me and makes me feel sick.

The human element always mucks things up.

Thanks to Cracked I can't overlook all the color contrast that is packed into movies these days.

I apologize in advance for all the crappy jokes I make.

Lens Flare added intentionally to a scene is stupid, and makes no sense.

I'm interested to see what you read. Do you happen to have a link for that?
