As you progress throughout your life you realize that the older you get the closer your are to death, the only thing you cannot change.

If you give a guitarist an instrument, and good music is played, an average person won't say "What a great guitar" they will say "What a great musician" and I believe the same philosophy applies to guns. Not to mention there will be ways to acquire guns regardless, and it violates our very constitution.

Gun related homicides are included in "General crime"

Your logic is so awesome I can't continue this discussion, there is just no contending with your logic relating to this argument.

Yeah I appreciate the sarcasm, But if you don't want to continue the debate then don't.

I won't, because my counter argument is just so obvious, if I even need to explain it to you then you are a moron.

I think it wouldn't be wise to comment while people are still grieving, from the pro gun or anti gun people.

UK:

Guns are banned unless you have explicit licences explaining that you use them for hunting, farming or sport.

Works so far.
Nah.

America has ~90 guns per hundred people. The UK has about 6.
In the last twenty years, in shooting sprees, 250 have been killed in the US and about 40 in the UK.
Per gun per capita, about two and a half times as many people are killed in shooting sprees here than in gun-friendly America.

Because shooting sprees are in no way representative of gun crime. In 2009, thirty-one people a day were killed in firearms homicides in the US. In that same entire year, just ten people were killed in spree shootings. In the Portland Nightclub shooting in January of that year, there were just two fatalities. It was still regarded as 'one of the worst mass shootings in Portland history'.

Yet everyone clamours to condemn gun ownership in the case of spree shootings, which make up tenths of even hundredths of a percent or the actual firearm homicide deaths that occur.

It's a pointless view, and reactionary beyond belief.

Wow, I wouldn't want to debate someone that is so childish as to resort to name calling in the fist place.

Its fine to agree with me but does insulting me accomplish anything? No.

So grow up and learn to properly discuss ideas.

How can some of you guys have such a failed grasp of why the second amendment was put into place by the Founding Fathers? The right to bear arms is a precaution to an oppressive government. Take that away and you risk tipping the balance of power between the people and the government. If you outlaw guns, then only outlaws will have guns.

They said they were waiting for all the facts.

A respectable position, given how much the media has tripped over itself and made numerous mistakes in an attempt to have the first scoop. Y'know, like saying it was Ryan when it was actually Adam.

I know my ways. So just stay back.

The second amendment would make a gun ban pretty hard, unfortunately.

I don't think the facts matter to them. Its all about religiously defending a 200 year old law.

And I could say that anti-gunners don't care about facts; it's all about blindly attacking guns. That doesn't really get us anywhere, does it?

May I mention the guy that massacred 20 children did not own the gun he used. He stole it! Gun control can only go so far. I think mental health seems to be the bigger issue.

You're a beautiful person, this was my exact response to this thread, and it was sat there, as the first comment, waiting for me to quote.

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

OP, a bolt action rifle is just as deadly as a semi-automatic. I used to be in the military, I hunt, and I target shoot. I have six guns. One handgun, two shotguns, and three rifles. All of my weapons are locked up in a large safe. I was required by the state of IL to take a firearm safety class even though I was in the Army. The military is huge on weapon safety.

Now, you're telling me that because some kid that was -blam!- up in the head got hold of his mother's firearms and shot up a school, that my right to own these weapons should be taken away? By your logic, the government will come and take all but one of my rifles.

The action of a weapon has nothing to do with safety. Sure, a fully automatic rifle can pump out way more rounds than a bolt-action, but either way, if someone wanted to shoot up a school and a bolt-action rifle is all they had, they'd still do it. Firearms are not the problem. All these kids who have no respect for themselves or others, have no moral values, and are often times a -blam!- nutjob, are the problem.

The anti gun stance offers change. Pro gun stance is just more guns.

INSANE PPL WIL STIL GET THE GUNZ, IT WIL BE JUST AS EASZY TO BUY OF DA BLACK MARKET THAN THE CORNER SHOP!!111 BANNING GUNZ WONT DO ANYTHING

I LUVE MAH GUNZ,THEY MAKE ME FEL LIEK A MAN!.

You delude yourself from a valid point just to make your opinion seem more correct. If people want guns, they will find them one way or another. America is a much larger place than the UK or other places with strict gun laws. You can't keep illegal ones from coming into the country. Besides if the government wanted my guns, then I would just report them stolen and hide them somewhere safe; as I'm sure just about anyone else with half a brain would do.

It was the NRA that supported the law banning the mentally deficient from owning guns, following the VT massacre. It was because of pro-gun advocates that people in Utah can concealed-carry on school grounds. It's because of pro-gun advocates that armed civilians use guns to prevent 2 to 7 times more crimes than guns are actually used for.
