You failed to prevent it when you specifically told Americans to open their eyes.

Counterpoint:This article examines a broad range of international data that bear on two distinct but interrelated questions: first, whether widespread firearm access is an important contributing factor in murder and/or suicide, and second, whether the introduction of laws that restrict general access to firearms has been successful in reducing violent crime, homicide or suicide. Our conclusion from the available data is that suicide, murder and violent crime rates are determined by basic social, economic and/or cultural factors with the availability of any particular one of the world's myriad deadly instrument being irrelevant.

On a side note the NRA has not tweeted for 2 days. I thought they would at-least try to defend the second amendment. Silence doesn't really look good[/quote]They said they were waiting for all the facts.

A respectable position, given how much the media has tripped over itself and made numerous mistakes in an attempt to have the first scoop. Y'know, like saying it was Ryan when it was actually Adam.
I don't think the facts matter to them. Its all about religiously defending a 200 year old law.
And I could say that anti-gunners don't care about facts; it's all about blindly attacking guns. That doesn't really get us anywhere, does it?
The anti gun stance offers change. Pro gun stance is just more guns.
It was the NRA that supported the law banning the mentally deficient from owning guns, following the VT massacre. It was because of pro-gun advocates that people in Utah can concealed-carry on school grounds. It's because of pro-gun advocates that armed civilians use guns to prevent 2 to 7 times more crimes than guns are actually used for.
Its still not working though. Because it still happens

It happens in places where guns aren't allowed. There haven't been any school shootings in Utah, and the shootings that have been attempted outside of gun free zones have been quickly stopped, sometimes by armed civilians.

The point of war is not to die for one's clan, but it's to make the other bastard die for his
Right before you die, there is always a chance to save yourself, sieze that chance and live to fight another day
The best way to kill someone is to fight them with the same weapons they use and make them know you are better than them, not because of superior weaponry, but because of superior skill.

What I'm wondering, is how much of that is a result of American intervention. From the end of WWII until 1951, the US military essentially ran Japan. One of the things they did was do everything possible to prevent Japan from ever becoming a military threat. This included widespread disarmanent, as well as actually outlawing war in the new Japanese constitution.

So you are saying that 3 years will make a difference in crime rates?

Has everyone in England suddenly dropped all their knives, decided that mugging is no good, and started singing ,"Why can't we be friends?"

"The object of war is not to die for your country, but to make the other basterd die for his".
General George Patton

It's American heritage. The right for one to defend oneself. It's in the American constitution, The right to bear arms.
America has the most freedom. To own firearms is our right.

Yes there are messed up people that can get a hold of guns and do some serious damage. But the thing is they target people who cannot defend themselves, a big target is schools where no student or teacher can bear arms within the school. because of this they are an easy target. In my own opinion if they were allowed (and in my mind should) carry sidearms it would be a huge deterrent to any criminal or insane person attempting harm to them.

The crime rate is much lower then if you only include England

No, but the article suggests the exact opposite of what you're saying:

....criminologists say crime figures can be affected by many factors, including different criminal justice systems and differences in how crime is reported and measured.

In Britain, an affray is considered a violent crime, while in other countries it will only be logged if a person is physically injured.
There are also degrees of violence. While the UK ranks above South Africa for all violent crime, South Africans suffer more than 20,000 murders each year - compared with Britain's 921 in 2007.

In conclusion - broader definition of 'violent' crime, better/more comprehensive reporting system, and Daily Mail.

I think it's similar here in Sweden.

Works good here too. The only guns I've seen IRL belong to the police.

I'm not really an Apple person (Bananas forever) but damn, that's kinda sad.

I would like if purchasing a firearm required more stringent standards. I'd also like if it was law to keep them fully visible on your person while in public, and to keep them stored in a secure location to keep them away from children.

Still, I get the distinct impression gun control is addressing a symptom of the problem, rather than the actual problem.

I'm assuming the overthrow the government thing would have been able to work out around 200-300 years ago you know when it actually worked for us back then?

Looking at just the past 40 years of history in the Middle East and Africa, I'd say that a bunch of angry guys with rifles are still able to overthrow governments. Guys living in caves and armed with AKs and RPGs are continually defying the most advanced and well-armed military in the world.

...

The United States has almost totally occupied the entire region in the ten years they've been in the Middle East. They've inflicted casualties on a scale of 10:1 at least on the insurgents. Never once has the US been hit hard enough to demand a full retreat, or even compromise.

Guerrilla actions are all fine and good, but there comes a time when the sheer scale of the opposing force is simply too much to be handled
