So it's stupid to have an opinion?

"Babies should be given loaded guns on their first birthday"
^That's an opinion. It's also an incredibly stupid thing to say. Don't say some dumbass -blam!- and then defend it by saying 'it's an opinion'. It's obvious that it's an opinion. That doesn't mean it's not stupid.
Some gun owners teach their children proper handling of firearms at a very early age. Do they simply toss a loaded AR-15 at their toddler and say "let's go shootin'!"? No, they don't. Children that learn proper gun safety at a young age are far less likely to misuse guns or have accidents with them.

You're willing to kill children. You wouldn't care. You can get fully automatic rifles on the internet anonymously

Speaking from personal experience in Canada, you either have to go to an extremely shady shady section of Jane & Finch and talk with a gang of Nigerians who smuggle weapons from the United States, talk to a mob rep or make your own weapon out of spare parts.

Getting a gun isn't easy

Yet it IS known that every single rampage shooting was committed with a legally obtained firearm.
The Connecticut killer was in illegal possession of two handguns.

Why in the world do non-Americans care about our gun laws?

If you don't live here you probably don't know what your talking about.

I don't know or care about Germany's gun laws because I'm not German, So I suggest you do the same.

I have the right to be worried. I don't want to visit my friends knowing that I could be killed by a pyscho wielding a gun.

Sounds like someone's paranoid.

It doesn't matter if his mother bought them legally; he was under 21 and could not legally possess handguns. He was breaking existing gun control laws before he ever set foot on school grounds.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

Let's say there are two cities.

In City A, guns are rare. Very few people privately own guns. It's just the culture there. There is one gun shop for the whole city. There are very, very few firearms in circulation. Gun crime is low simply because of the lack of firearms. There is no established black market, so criminals can only buy guns from law-abiding citizens.

In City B, guns are commonplace. Everyone has a gun. There are gun shops on every corner, and there are many, many guns in circulation. There are way more guns in circulation, and therefore criminals have far more access to guns. There is an established illegal black market for guns where criminals can buy them.

Now try banning guns. In City A, it's very easy. The few people who do own guns turn their guns in. Criminals lose their only source of guns, the law-abiding citizens.

In City B, it's very hard. Every law-abiding citizen turns over their guns. But the established black market lives on, and criminals still have guns.

Rename City A England, and rename City B America. That's how it works.

You forget the fact even if it was illegal, they most likely would of gotten the gun anyways.

You can't say that. You really do not know.

Yet it IS known that every single rampage shooting was committed with a legally obtained firearm.

Wrong
OK, which rampage shooter used an illegally obtained firearm?

Columbine? Aurora? Connecticut? VA Tech (either time)?

Connecticut for one, as the guns were stolen from the owner, unless you imply that stealing is perfectly legal.

The Columbine weapons were not bought by the perpetrators, they were bought via third party, and only one was confirmed to be through a gun show. They violated the Gun Control Act of 1968

Aurora I could not find info on the weapons

for the VA tech, there may have been illegal actions such as the selling of magazines on ebay, but I could not confirm if there was legal or illegal acquisition.

Except that by limiting production of firearms on a legal basis you hinder their ability to make illegal versions :/

Short of manually-assembling weapons out of random stuff (Very dangerous) weapons require parts and facilities to reproduce. Limit both on a legal basis and enforce it with an expanded police force, and both legal and illegal weapons become scarce

He's right though.

Also, look at NYC. We have a ton of gun violence here, yet we have the strictest gun rules in the country.

And then compare that to Kennesaw, GA, where owning a gun is mandatory. They're one of the safest cities in the country.

UK:

Guns are banned unless you have explicit licences explaining that you use them for hunting, farming or sport.

Works so far.

I took sociology class and I can confirm that the number of death caused by guns is less than 1/10 compared to America.

I don't think you understand how many guns are in America.
You don't need to reproduce weapons in America for there to be a black market. There are HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of guns in America. 250 million legally owned weapons, and far more illegal weapons.

If you limit production...there are still HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of pre-existing guns in America.

The point of my post wasn't anything to do with guns, it was just making the point that there is such thing as a stupid opinion which people sometimes don't seem to realize.

I'm sure that children that learn gun safety would be less likely to have accidents with guns, but I'm not so sure they they would be less likely to misuse them. A person who knows gun safety well is not any less likely to develop a mental disorder and kill people with a gun.

I don't know why you would want to teach a child how to use a gun in the first place. If a grown person wants to own a gun then that's fine but I don't approve of introducing guns to someone when they're a child.

However there are many many people across America who own guns and yet this stuff is in the news because it's rare, to be honest I'm not convinced gun control is the problem.

Uh. . . at the most, they'd stay the same. Unless you're implying that criminals are going to start destroying all the guns they come across.

The drug cartels are already involved a lot of weapons trafficking. Trying to ban guns in America won't do anything but make that market explode. And these aren't just handguns and semi-auto rifles. . . roughly 1/3 of the Mexican military has joined the cartels, and they brought with them explosives and heavy machine guns.

Guns require constant maintenance and replacement, to the point where the majority of one must be replaced/repaired after a certain time (Depends on amount of use).

Cut off people's ability to repair or otherwise replace their weapons, and they will begin to disappear

The majority of weapons illegally purchased are manufactured legally somewhere else. Cutting off production will quickly cripple gun use in the country. Will it be enough on its own? no, not even close, but it's a good start
