LOL
Translation of the line "LOL": "HE DISAGREES WITH ME SO HE MUST BE STUPID LOLOLOL xD!"
Saying those rules are stupid compared to what the US currently has is beyond laughable.

Just because he disagrees doesn't mean it's laughable.

My "translation" still stands.
No it is laughable.

Anybody who thinks them rules are stupid compared to what the US has, is stupid.

So....

"It doesn't agree with my opinion, so he must be wrong"

Does that translation work better?
I know it's an opinion, that's why I think it's stupid if you think the US laws are better.

All you have to do is compare the shootings in the US to Australia.

Sorry OP, but if an armed gunman ever tried to rob my house (which happens surprisingly often around me) or rob me on the streets. I'd like to defend myself.
Lol if something like that happens often, why not just move to a better neighborhood?

America
-All kinds of weapons may be sold
-Weapons don't have to be sold on government property
-Buyer doesn't need valid reason (Anyone can say "to protect myself")
-Shorter background check (I'm not sure about exact length)
-Citizens can own many firearms
Fully automatic guns can only be owned by people with special licenses, which are very rare. Weapons must be sold by federal-licensed dealers, and I believe the transaction must take place in a federally regulated shop, but I'm not completely sure about this and it might vary by state. Anyway, the problem is a majority of guns are not sold legally, or at least with all the legal procedures followed.

Now, most Americans usually say "Even if gun laws are changed, criminals can still buy it off the black market". That is very true, but Australia has a black market too, you know. Yet, we don't have mass shootings every 6 months. This is assuming gun laws and gun availability are the only factors that affect gun violence, which is simply not true. Consider the fact that the US has a much greater population and many different social factors (i.e. poverty) than Australia.

Also, guns are legal in America so they can apparently 'overthrow the government.' How exactly would that work? I doubt an angry mob can take on the US Army, even if they did have guns.Yes, the guns were meant to empower the citizens, allowing them to revolt against the government if they feel the government has become corrupt and no longer protects the freedom or security of its citizens. In this situation, it wouldn't be an "angry mob," but rather a majority of the country that revolts. Also, the military would probably be on the civilians' side; I seriously doubt they would turn against their friends, family, and neighbors because the corrupt government said so (contrary to popular belief, the military men and women are not puppets).

The thing foreigners are often forgetting about the United States is that a lot of things are beyond federal regulation.

>> Fully-automatic weaponry is illegal for ownership, save for by a federal officer. This is the general rule, though I know exceptions to exist.
>> No, no they do not.
>> In the State of California (where I live, and which probably has some of the best gun control in the country, which isn't saying much) there is a two week delay between requesting and recieving a gun, so you can't just go out and shoot someone.
>> Would depend on state.
>> Yes, yes they can.

Now, most Americans usually say "Even if gun laws are changed, criminals can still buy it off the black market". That is very true, but Australia has a black market too, you know. The United States is, just like your country, politically divided. I guarantee that if you ask ten different people, you'll get ten different opinions. Personally, I'm in favor of very, very strict gun control laws, but then again, I'm also not a very patriotic individual (to hell with nationalism), so maybe I'm in the minority.

I'll be honest, some of the things I've said here aren't exactly researched, and the top of my head isn't a great resource, so I might be wrong.

Also help people with mental illness, don't pretend that serious mental illnesses which have factual basis in biology are just some kind of excuses. Stop pretending that everyone's brain is the same because it's so obvious they aren't. America does not invest enough in research and care programs.

Why in the world do non-Americans care about our gun laws?

If you don't live here you probably don't know what your talking about.

I don't know or care about Germany's gun laws because I'm not German, So I suggest you do the same.

I have the right to be worried. I don't want to visit my friends knowing that I could be killed by a pyscho wielding a gun.

You know you kill just as many easily with a bolt-action, which is allowed in Australia, right? Even then, he acquired the firearms illegally. Stronger laws would not of made a difference. I could buy a rocket launcher off the internet easily if I wanted to. Do I? Hell no. But if I'm willing to slaughter innocent children, I'm willing to break the law even more.

It's pretty stupid to point to gun control laws as the only factor in shootings and violent crime.

You also have to consider general culture, economic conditions, the prevalance of poverty, responses to poverty, border control, drug policies, the approach to criminal punishment, healthcare, treatment of mental illnesses, media coverage of these incidents. . . there's probably hundreds of individual factors, many of which are interdependent.

I'll also repost this for about the dozenth time:This article examines a broad range of international data that bear on two distinct but interrelated questions: first, whether widespread firearm access is an important contributing factor in murder and/or suicide, and second, whether the introduction of laws that restrict general access to firearms has been successful in reducing violent crime, homicide or suicide. Our conclusion from the available data is that suicide, murder and violent crime rates are determined by basic social, economic and/or cultural factors with the availability of any particular one of the world's myriad deadly instrument being irrelevant.

You forget the fact even if it was illegal, they most likely would of gotten the gun anyways. Also, the firearms used in the school were acquired illegally, as the gunman stole them from the owner.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

You can't compare the UK to the USA.

Even before the gun bans, very few people owned guns in the UK. That was just the culture there. Guns have always been rare in the UK. There were never enough guns in the first place for there to be an established black market.

In America, there are literally as many guns as people. Guns have always been commonplace. There is already an established black market. The cat is out the bag.
