Subject: The Hobbit is a massive cash-grab

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Yeah. But I`m going to watch them anyway.

Examples of "irrelevant fluff" required.

For such a long movie I have rarely seen such a group of underdeveloped characters.
This is almost literally a Seven Dwarves situation. You can't develope them all. There was enough development.

The ones I remember:

Brokenshield
The bald one who showed up first
The one who shot the slingshot and clearly had no business in a military situation and had a ponytail.
The white-haired one.

And that's all I needed for the first movie. The others can be worked on throughout the rest of the movies.

I am a monument to all your sins

Who cares? it's the freaking Hobbit.

  • 12.16.2012 2:04 PM PDT

Wake me, when you need me.

I'd prefer that he would get as much detail as possible rather than putting the entire book into one movie.

  • 12.16.2012 2:06 PM PDT

So you basically thought the chase scene(s) leading up to Rivendell were pointless. How else should it have been handled? More walking, the thing that people complain enough about? As for dwarf characterization, we have two more movies to flesh them out a bit. Be glad that all had at least one line, because in the books only 4-5 talked AT ALL.

This. I know a lot of people complain about the length of the movie but I thought it was great. Could easily have watched more.

This isn't like the difference between the old and new Star Wars trilogies. The Hobbit fits the LotR film franchise perfectly, because you know.... Peter Jackson is actually really good.

Dude, they nailed pretty much the first 100 or so pages in the Hobbit, with one movie and it is a pretty damn long movie. I like how they are going into a lot of detail for these.

Having more content =/= better movie.

If he really wanted to have those scenes, he should have included them in an extended edition for the die-hard fans.

  • 12.16.2012 2:11 PM PDT

There was not one unnecessary minute of that movie. I disagree.

But this is simply your opinion. For you the movie lacked cohesion, was too long, no character development. And thats fine by the way.

I just didn't share the same experience and I really enjoyed the film. I thought it was a nice balance between the style of the book and the style of the film trilogy.

...It's almost certain that there will be an extended edition. Just like with all of the original LotR movies that all gained an extra hour in the extended cut.

Right, because us Hobbit fans would totally want to wait for the DVD versions just to enjoy the film to it's full extent.

The Hobbit though? A snooze fest. If he really wanted to make it, it should have been two films at the most.

That's because he's trying to make it more like the book, which has a lot of material. The book was also extremely boring, so it makes sense that the movie is boring.

Having more content is alright for die hard Hobbit fans but for a lot of the audience there were a lot of boring and overlong scenes in the movie.

The Fellowship of the Ring was boring as hell too.

I honestly can't think of anything that could have been removed from the film that wouldn't have resulted in crippling it except for the Radagast bits. Bringing a hedgehog back to life....... well maybe kids would have liked that bit?

I think OP didn't like the film and really doesn't like that the majority of us did and don't agree with him. I'm really sorry to hear that you didn't like it, life goes on.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

Are those movies 3 hours long as well? I personally couldn't care less about Hobbit, Lord Of The Rings was boring enough for me.

Uh...okay? This is a forum for expressing opinions, is it not? I chose to share why I didn't like the Hobbit. I'm not "Upset" that others like it.

The general reaction from the audience seemed to be that they were enjoying it. I was in a pretty crowded theater, and I can guarantee that maybe 5 people in there total read the books. The rest were just previous LotR film fans. They all seemed to be enjoying and laughing at the scenes where it was just talking for 10 minutes or more. Sure, some of the scenes were overdrawn, but peter made it interesting for us that are actually into the lore of middle-earth and it's characters.

I be trippin'.

I loved the movie. The were a few unnecessary moments (such as the stone giant sequence, WTF), but I still thought it was great. Not as good as the Fellowship, but people are making it seem like this is going to be the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Brainwashing, idiotic media: "hur dur, vido gaems cas vilenc n iz nt gud. dey ned 2 b baned."

Logic: Really? Then please explain how there's violence in third world countries. I guess they're all poor due to the large amount of video games they buy.

One movie with little detail or multiple movies with a lot of detail?
