Subject: Why is Sport Held in Such High Regard?

Forgot to mention, emphasis on sport in the education system is filling people full of false hope.

A tiny percentage of those pursuing a career in say, football, actually go on to be footballers.

What you end up with are people who have devoted their education to sport with no qualifications or useful skills.

Wrong.

baseball got me a paid in full college education.

I beg the question, who is "inspired" by somebody being particularly good at a sport?

My role models have always been athletes.

Who are your role models?

Like others said it's impressive and unlike academic things that can also be impressive is more entertaining to most.

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

What's with every letter of the first word caps'd?

OP: Not sure. Sports players are WAY over paid. It's freaking sports! Let's give them money. When they "get hurt," let's give them more money. OR when they even win games/ maybe win the Super Bowl, give them EVEN MORE money.

Fo'real.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

A lot of people are. Pretty much anyone who aims to go far in their sports career, I take it you don't play any sports?

You're kidding, right?

But the fact is, Bill Gates is still a clever person, perhaps so clever, or perhaps smart more so, he could make it, within his pursuit without academics.

Whereas, the likes of a partical physicist requires education, because they are required to know facts and formulas, and let's face it, they are the future, not people who can exert there body more so than others.

No, no theyre not.

You know how much revenue athletes bring in to their organizations? They are actually underpaid IMO.

I think he means that the public give them too much money.

They provide entertainment, public is entertained, public pays for entertainment. If athletes are over paid so are musicians and actors.

Sometimes I am tempted to quit gaming. I can no longer play without seeing ponyphags, horrendously bad teammates and mexicans.

Gaming community, I want you to know that you suck.

I don't have role models because nobody is perfect, treat someone with such high regard and they'll just disappoint you when you find out more about them.

inb4 "trying to be edgy"

I don't have any role models either, but your reason for not having any is dumb.

Sports are physically impressive, whether you like it or not. People push their bodies to the limits, so they deserve recognition.

With that said, academic pursuits are still important.

Physicality is not the only thing: team sports require intelligence too. Team sports involves strategy and not all people have the coordination to recognize and execute those strategies let alone have the physical capability to do them.

Covan was here, December 20th.

Come back later, after he's out of Parris Island.

Every day we are bombarded with sportsmen/women taking themselves far too seriously and handing out awards to one another.

For example, Usain Bolt, he can run in a straight line really fast, that's about it. Yet the way he's treated is ludicrous.

Especially this year in the UK with the Olympics, all we heard was new sporting programs, and sporting facilities, all the while no attention is paid to those in academic pursuits.

Let me know when you find 10 people who are faster than him.
