... but at least there's a reaction.

Any help from someone with knowledge on this?

I'd like to change my MS Account/Live ID. (Not my gamertag.) Will this disassociate my gamertag from the legacy stats & bungie items? I'm particularly concerned about having my Halo 2 stats wiped, losing my blue flames in Reach, etc.

I've made several searches on the topic, but most of the information was from before or during the Bungie-343i transition. I'm sorry if this has been addressed extensively and I just missed it.

I asked over at the Waypoint forums and got some very helpful responses, but I thought I'd check here too.

Changing your Windows Live ID doesn't affect your stats or unlocks in anyway.

This post by Cryptic should help. My post above Cryptic links to the FAQ on this topic if Cryptic's post doesn't help.

Thanks for the replies and all the help. I'll give it a shot. I've been using an old (otherwise abandoned) hotmail account and the Microsoft Account management tools seem to be giving me some trouble changing the emails.

Thanks again.

Lobster Fish 2 is on top of this. Just to reassure, I would suggest changing the email address of your Microsoft account. Please note that if the email address you want to change it to is already a Microsoft account, you will need to change the email of that Microsoft account to something else first. Wait 30 days and then you'll be able to update the email address of the Microsoft account associated with your Bungie.net profile to the one you want. This is safe; you don't have to worry about linking issues or losing anything.

What issues are you having?

Granted, this was before the transition, but I have changed my WLID, and everything stayed intact just fine.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I'm pretty certain if you only change your WLID and move your Xbox Live and Bungie accounts over to it that nothing bad happens.

From inside the MS Account settings/Overview, I am not able to "Update Email." It simply responds, "The email address associated with your Microsoft account can't be changed." If it would let me change that setting, I wouldn't have any issue at all.

I'm able to add additional email addresses to the account, but not able to update the main one (as the main login name) or remove the otherwise defunct ancient hotmail address. I've read that this is an issue with @hotmail based MS Accounts.

If I can create an entirely new and separate WLID without any issues, I'm good to go.

I just re-read Cryptic's post (linked above) and I might have it backwards.

In that example, the user (no weakness) ends up using his original WLID, with the email changed. Since MS won't let me change the hotmail address on my current WLID, I can't follow exactly those instructions; is it as simple as creating a new and separate WLID, and switching both b.net and XBL over to that one?

Thanks again to all for the assistance.

Your best bet is to see if your current account will let you create a new user name. I changed my MS account in August and now I have to login into bnet with my old MS account. My gamertag is linked to my new account, and If I try to login with my new MS account I have to make a new bnet account. Simply put if you create a new MS account you won't be able to link your gamertag to your current bnet account.

Unfortunately, you can only change the Microsoft account associated to your Xbox LIVE gamertag. You cannot change the Microsoft account associated to your Bungie.net profile at this time, but hopefully the new website will have a solution for you.

You may be able to change your WLID to an Outlook email address if you sign up at outlook.com.

I don't remember, but you may be able to change it something else via this method.

You can change the log-in e-mail address associated with your account.

For instance, if you currently type in:
gen_email@client.com

to log in, and you want to log in using:
boogy_boss@client.com

Then all you need to do to change this is adjust your Micro$oft account settings. (I think it's login.live.com, or something).

To get to this page, follow the bread crumbs:

1.) Go to your B.net profile page (click your name at the top-right of this page)

2.) Click on your XBL Gamertag Hyperlink (on the left side on the page)

3.) Click "My Account" at the top-right of page

4.) Click "Change Password" under the 'Settings & Preferences' group (don't worry, this won't change anything. It just takes you to the Account Settings page).

5.) Click "Update email address", and go from there.

NOTE: Micro$oft will back-up your old e-mail address for about a month (just in case). However, you will be able to instantly log into your account under the new e-mail address.

It will be the exact same account, just under a new e-mail address.

Thanks, Mikal7. That's exactly the first thing I tried, but I'm unable to go further than "Update email address" - I get this response.

"The email address associated with your Microsoft account can't be changed "

That's where I'm stuck. Can't update the hotmail. Looks like I can't just create a brand new (separate) WLID, either (without losing the bungie.net association) so I guess I'll have to find a workaround, or just wait for one to be presented.

I've been following this MS support thread (amongst others); looks like this problem affects Windows 8/Windows phone users the most, but I'm sure I'm not the only one with a bungie.net account linked to an otherwise defunct email address.

Bottom line, though - As I read it, if I change anything, I can change back to my original email for both bungie.net and my gamertag, and it should restore all associations. So, no harm in trying to find that workaround.
