covenant and elite are pretty much one in the same. This -blam!-acular idea has also been brought up. It would be stupid as hell to swim around the island and pop up on the other side, moron style only to get your ass served and your body falling back into the water.

No, he's got an awesome point. I don't see why Bungie hasn't yet added the ability to swim underwater into Halo yet, and I think it would be an awesome idea.

Just take a cue from Half-Life. It doesn't have to be anything complicated at all. Mechanism firearms like automatic rifles would not work while submerged and the Master Chief's view may even be a little distorted and warped. I'd love to be able to explore the water without having to automatically die each and every time my toe touches it.

WHATS THE POINT??? Woo now i can go swimming in the middle of the battlefield. I agree that the instant kill was a little dumb, but making them swim without use of their guns would be an unessasary feature. If there were rivers and stuff like that then why wouldn't you just get into a vehicle or stand on it while people drove it across the water? Swimming would just make people into slowly moving targets.

For cover from the enemies? For tactical reasons, sneaking up behind an enemy around the water's edge? I think its an awesome idea. Even implementing it as a necessary thing to conquer to reach the next misson, like some old forerunner ruins under the ocean. Be creative!

That's like saying "Whoopie, now I can drive vehicles or dual-wield weapons." There are lots of applications for it, you just gotta think.

"heh"

The Master Chief was 1000 pounds with that suit on, I doubt he can float.

MC was half a ton with his suit, hes strong but he wont be able to swim, unless walking along the seabed is swimming to you. Swimming would make you a target. Nothing more.

Swimming, if implemented right, might be able to give the game a new tactical aspect. For example, in a level where you have the option to take a less guarded water route or a heavily guarded path, some players would think about taking the water route. Of course, there should be some disadvantages to taking the water route, as it would be too easy just to swim past the enemies to get where you want to. My final thought is that swimming would be a good idea, but if and only if it were introduced to the game comfortably and didn't unbalance any aspects of the game.

Yeah, he will sink. Unless he has a popout propeller in the suit.

Say, that doesn't sound like a bad idea! [/sarcasm]

mc wouldnt swim, BUT he has armor that can keep him alive in space or unbreathable conditions for 45 mins-1 hr. so it may be logical if he did go underwater like in halo1(silent cartagropher/the coolant liquid in the lvl keyes) but his firearms wouldnt work, and even plasma doesnt travel well in water. so meh, it would be ok but not the biggest issue that needs to be fixed for halo3

They have. Granted, it was reactor coolant, but they have. Halo 1.
