Subject: School Security

I don't see you doing anything to help our country.
Except sitting at home, naked, eating twinkies, rubbing your hands together going "Heh. Target Destroyed. Mission Accomplished." Oh wait. that's not helping.

With the recent attack I'd say this becomes a viable topic now. Whereas most high schools have an officer on campus at all times, I at least know ours has quite a few guns locked away in his office, there is never really any protection at lower level schools. It sounds crazy, it is crazy, but what is the deterrent if there is no police presence? There is none.

Given that this attack has now happened, I have no doubt that some other psychopath will eventually attempt the same. Should there be a police officer stationed in every public school?

Let teachers carry or keep guns in their class room.

Guns in the hands of responsible civilians (who are the vast majority) saves lives.

Nope. Waste of resources and tax payers money.

Key

Someone could still walk in when the periods are changing, go to the place where the C-wing begins, and kill 50 people in the crowd before anyone could do anything about it and be out of the school in under a minute. If the one officer is in the wrong place at the right time.... tough -blam!-.

  • 12.16.2012 8:58 PM PDT

Just block all the indoor windows and keep all the doors locked during class.

  • 12.16.2012 8:58 PM PDT

Lt. Dan I brought you some ice cream. Lt. Dan.. ice creaaam!

I suggeset we have army patrols circling the perimeter of every school at all times.

  • 12.16.2012 8:58 PM PDT

There's only so much security a school can have...I don't see it being very easy to prevent a shooting again with any somewhat reasonable security measures being taken.

  • 12.16.2012 8:58 PM PDT

In the county where I went to school, all the schools had a police officer who worked there.

.

Let's not forget that a certain group of people think that teachers are already paid too much, and class sizes are too small, and school days are too short.

Do you really think being underpaid, with a class overcrowded with uncontrollable children, for hours on end, is the right person to give a gun to?

Oh I see that you think 1 police officer will be right where the gunman is and kill him before he can fire a shot.

The gunmen will know there is one police officer around. Will wait till he is on the other side of the school gun down a class and then suicide or leave.

I highly doubt he was being serious.

I suppose so, still it's a hell of a lot faster than waiting for a police response to get there. All he has to do is unlock is cabinet and haul ass. It's not perfect, but it is far better.

Yeah..I have to agree. Have you ever lost your keys? I know I have. Imagine if the teacher lost the key to the gun in their drawer...

The Universe demands to be noticed, to be seen, and dutifully noted.

What use all those incredible firework dimensions if no eye fixes and reflects, no brain takes notes, no heart moves with passion at the display?

NASA answers the silent cry of the Cosmos for recognition.

NASA is the witness and we fellow witnesses to the endless deeps.

Call me heartless - but I don't think that the recent school shootings necessitate a drastic increase in school security - there are many more issues with a greater death toll that warrant our attention.

Keep the gun locked in a drawer with one key and they keep the key to the gun drawer in another drawer and the key to the key drawer on you.

That's cold. Think like a killer; Someone just did this with almost NO RESISTANCE, if we don't beef up security it's like setting out a kill here sign.

It would still be better than nothing. The officer could still respond much faster than any other police unit.

Appeal to consequences fallacy. You're wrong to presume a teacher will crack because of the examples you just mentioned.

So you think a squad car could get there and get in the school to the right area before the on duty officer could? Really??

Do I need to link the article about China having officers stationed at all their schools? Are you really going to make this some America thread? They need it so we don't have to call police to the school if an arrest needs to be made, you know something that might frighten parents.

Thank you, also its a fallacy of accident, those odds are much much lower than the alternative.
