Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

So to solve the problem of people bringing guns to schools, it is proposed that we keep guns in schools?

The no fire arms sign on the window is not going to stop someone about to slaughter school children.
And neither is a teacher with a gun.

Um... what.

Yes they will.

Shooters almost always kill themselves/give up when met with actual resistance.
Always 1000% ever completely proven.

The aim of these guys is to go out in a blaze of glory, taking down as many of the people they hate until they finally kill themselves.

Their aim is to die in the end; do you think they care if someone's shooting back?

Ever heard of 'suicide by police'?

Yeah, they usually take about 20 cops with them right?

Oh wait no they get shot to death and don't slaughter dozens of children.

It wouldn't be a requirement, only an option.

I would never trust certain teachers with a weapon. One student making them angry enough could make the entire situation escalate quickly.

  • 12.16.2012 9:21 PM PDT

It is a measure I would support, as long as a foolproof way is designed for kids to not be able to get their hands on it.

It's also interesting how people think that having a gun would save them in case there is a shooting. You're not James Bond, you probably couldn't do -blam!- in that situation, even if you had a gun. So stop talking like guns are going to save you.

My stats in Halol 4

Typical Waypoint post.
no it's "its got to go" you wouldn't say the "it is got to go" would you?

wtf no. Solve violence with more violence? Why don't we just arm everyone with tanks and be done with it?

... This isn't a drunken barfight.

How many teachers get in actual fights with kids?

How many teachers kill their students?

  • 12.16.2012 9:23 PM PDT

Unreal, isn't it?

I can definitely see how giving teachers guns would reduce violence toward schools. But I just don't like the idea of them having guns around our kids, some teachers lose it and hit kids and such, and they aren't trained in the use of firearms (And are we really going to pile THAT onto teachers too?). I agree with the guy who said more officers. Or just better security in general, more 'border control' as it were.

While shooting at anyone in sight, which could hit and kill anyone in sight.

Kid pulls a handgun in the halls between periods, shoots into the crowd, hitting kids and causing panic. The teacher has to shoot back through the crowd of panicking school children, shoot back before anyone else gets hurt, and shoot back without getting shot himself.

That is still a high casualty situation.

Well this is a knee-jerk reaction if I've ever seen one.

  • 12.16.2012 9:24 PM PDT

I don't know about other school districts, but my old one had Student Resource Officers that were on campus throughout the entire school day. I think these officers having guns should be sufficient enough.

Wut.

This level of logic....

Yes, not being able to shoot the man killing children is the answer here, its not like his gun is useful in stopping people from doing things.

Wait.

How many teachers kill their students?
It only takes one crazy teacher, and there are these kind of teachers out there.

What if there is some kid being bullied to the point of where he becomes homicidal? That makes the gun easier to get. Or what if a teacher loses his cool, and snaps? Any smart kid could steal it, and find a way around it.

My thoughts exactly, despite the poll results the actual No option supporters have had pretty weak/ un proportionally few arguments thus far.

"Ignorance is a plague."

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

If the teacher is licensed to carry firearms outside of class, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be allowed to while doing their job.

While I can see it being helpful, I don't see it as a solution. Teachers are not police, they are not soldiers. And I don't think most teachers want the responsibility of weapons training and being prepared to kill a man. That's the job of police and soldiers.

If the kid is able to crack open a locked gun case, hes going to be able to get his hands on a gun one way or another.

As to a teacher losing their cool, well if a teachers is so close to cracking that he'll open up on his kids then I don't think that him just bringing a weapon to school is unlikely. But still, fallacies of appeal to consequences and accident.

No, could you imagine if a student got ahold of it? Not to mention it would be an easy target for theft.

They need a resource officer. Budget cuts cut the resource officer, from the look of it, it wasn't worth the money saved.

No its not a true solution, that lies in mental health and society in general (why is going on a rampage even a thing?), but this would be relatively simple and cost effective.

And yes, resource officers are good, but yes they cost money.

This would/could come out of the teachers own pocket.
