No need for all that stupid QUAD CORE FUKSHT MEGA 6.4GHZ ION INTEL whatever processor, I got an SSD and my Mac has achieved peace mode.

Brb literal 8 second start up time
Brb every program opens up instantly
Brb shuts down instantly

I highly recommend one. I have a 512gb Intel SSD .

So..... You can start up your PC in 8 seconds. Is that supposed to make me want to go buy a $200+ dollar piece of hardware?

I enjoy magma.

Why would you still not want a good processor.

Why would a primary concern with your processor be your startup speed.

I'm seriously considering picking up a Dell XPS 13 the next time it goes on sale. I like that the SSD has no moving parts, so I think it will be particularly useful for laptops.

SSD's are especially good for laptops since there is no spinning disk and therefore less power consumption. They also last longer and don't ever get fragmented!

That looks really good.

But you still need a good CPU, Graphics card and RAM in order to actually use it.

It adds up. Everything adds up.

If you save an average of 100 seconds daily by opening up programs and startup, that adds up. Probably a lot more.

If you play games like Battlefield 3 you will start around 20 seconds before everyone else every game which REALLY adds up quickly.

I don't think so jeff

I'm using a 2010 MacBook pro 15" with a gt330m and an i5 dual core with 8gb ram. I can easily notice it.

Can't upgrade in a laptop. I wouldn't get a faster processor because no one needs anything faster than i5 unless you do gaming or run 200,000,000 pages of excel.

$2,000?

I would just get the retina macbook pro 13" imo lol. You can get one for $1550 on eBay and dat dere high def screen is hnnnng/10

Or you could wait until Q2 for Apple to release the next gen MacBook Air's with retina displays..

I was looking at getting a MacBook, but the problem is that OSX doesn't support Visual Studio, and I need that (along with some other software that's probably Windows-only).

Obviously I could dual-boot, but I don't like screwing around with the OS stuff.

Fair enough. The time difference argument however (especially with games) is kinda whatever.

Well you could wait until manufatures start making ultra high res displays in 2013. Intel themselves said they're expecting manufactures to begin making them and I'm sure companies like Dell and Samsung will have them.

A 2560 x 1600 @ 220ppi + will definitely be better if you things like photo and video editing. Plus it will be future proof.

  • 12.16.2012 10:28 PM PDT

How much did it cost? Also, why are you upgrading a Mac?

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

Well I bought a 2010 MacBook Pro 15" for a really good deal ( $750 ). Had warrantly and was loaded and literally brand new. The 5400rpm made it feel slow so I bought an intel SSD for $300 from a Cyber Monday deal on Newegg. I even saw a intel 240gb for $130 which was good..

And from what I heard Intel and Samsung are the best SSD makers so yeah

SSD is not a waste, a 512GB one is.

I guess if you have a laptop it's alright, but I still think it's a waste.

Honestly, this must be a joke. Child, listen, stop trying to defend yourself because clearly you are incapable of it. The only idiot in this thread is yourself, and trust me, it is obvious. So, how about you do as I asked earlier and log off, mommy and daddy wouldn't want you staying up this late.

Seriously though, good for you. I've been planning on buying a SSD but I don't want to format my machine again. My computer is slow to start things and so am I.

Well I got a really good deal on mine. I like the fact that I can keep my entire 1080p movie collection on one hard drive and not two separate ones..

1080p movies don't need SSD speeds. I don't even think 4K video needs that speed.

-I was here

I have an SSD. Honestly, the boot time is nice but the storage capacity is crap unless you want to pay way more than normal.

I'm on one right now. great computer for work and moving around, though the lack of a disc drive and only 2 USB ports and nothing else can be a bit of a pain.

That's why you don't get the 128gb...
