Subject: I need help choosing which play to take my boyfriend to see

So I'm going to be buying two tickets for me and my boyfriend to go to this fancy theatre in Minneapolis as part of his Christmas gift. Now I know absolutely nothing about plays but he absolutely loves them and there are three shows during January for me to choose from. I don't know how much experience the Flood has in the theatre department but if anyone knows much about these plays I'd really appreciate some help deciding!

These are my options: "The Servant of Two Masters", "As You Like It", "Long Days Journey Into the Night"

As I stated I know nothing about plays. They have descriptions but I'd like someone's opinion on them who has seen them firsthand. I know all performances vary theatre to theatre but since this is a good theatre I doubt any will really be bad. Please help Flood! Surely there must be some flood members who like plays right?

I doubt the Flood knows too much about plays. Sadly I am part of that majority. Look up reviews of them, or pick the one you and him would find the most enjoyable.

Only one I've heard of is "As you like it" and I haven't seen a performance for it.

Take him to "Medea" that'll teach him!

I love your username.

And yeah, I doubted the flood would be much help. I figured there must be some members here and there that have some sort of idea. I'll be looking into reviews later today.

That's exactly what I thought when I read them. Pretty sure my high school did it or something. Ugh I'm just worried I'll pick one that's boring or dumb.

Umm, here's an idea: don't.

Plays are terrible.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

Isn't As You Like It Shakespeare?

Sounds lame to me.

Yeah. That's probably a no-go. I don't think he's big into Shakespeare.

Some plays are nice, I used to go to alot of plays with my grandmother, but not anymore :(

But I like the tragedies most, the greek ones, where things don't end well with the main character.

Honestly I've never been big into plays. I did see one about Anne Frank though that was really good. But I'm not buying these tickets for me, it's because HE likes plays, so it's irrelevant if I care for them or not.

Come on Flood, someone's got to know something about plays around here.

Roll with the hits, not under them.

No, you can't have it. But thanks for asking!

If your boy likes twisted humor with a hint of slapstick, go check out The Servant of Two Masters. It's a Machiavellian plot that ate some x and inhaled too much helium.

As You Like It is Shakespearean comedy, only Shakespeare was obviously hungover as all heck when he wrote it, and it's really not nearly the gem as some of his other plays.

If he's into dystopian plots about abuse, use, and moral spiral downfalls with a pinch of failed redemption and the humanity that still sticks with people even at the basest level of interaction, go see Long Day's Journey Into the Night.

Personally, I hate comedy. I'd go for Long Day's.

After all we've been through Lifts Her Tail, and you call me swine? Is this real life?

Oh my god thank you so much for the help!

I was reading the descriptions for the three of them and Long Day's sounded pretty cool. It's also the first time this theatre has performed this show so it'll be that much more special if I choose it. Will do a little more research before buying these tickets, they're almost 60 bucks each!

Thanks again!
