Oh and the anime adaption of metropolis is great; an absolutely brilliant ending sequence that gives me shivers every time.

Well in my opinion, the characters were decent at best, the plot was crap at best, and the concept is relatively the same as the plot. The art style was bearable. Perhaps because it looked more western styled was why it appealed to westerners so much despite the lack of a solid storyline.

Well you're entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong you are.

If you think Nausicaa and Cowboy Bebop are the greatest anime, it probably explains why Akira passed you by...

Maybe if I had watched it as a... kid... it might have entertained me.

I watched Akira when I was 14ish.

Maybe the reason it's so popular was because a bunch of little kids thought it was the most awesomest showest Everest! I mean what kind of kid doesn't like random violence?

Yes, loads of kids liking it is why adult film critics judge it to be one of the greatest movies ever made.

No offense dude but you obviously have -blam!- taste.

You expected an old anime to be bad? OP you are disappointing most of the old stuff is actually pretty damn good.

[As of October 2012]
2013 ADFA Officer Cadet of the RAAF (Aerospace Engineer Electronics Officer).

Watch the other Studio Ghilbi movies; namely, Castle in the Sky, and Spirited Away. Spirited Away won an Oscar.

If you like those ones as well, there's others like Porco Rosso, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Monoke (it's not really about a Princess), My Neighbour Totoro, etc.

They're all very well scripted movies with generally interesting characters; Hayao Miyazaki, the writer for about half of Ghibli's films, is known as possibly the greatest anime writer of all time.
