  • 12.17.2012 4:48 AM PDT

Country: United States.
State: Pennsylvania.
County: Warren.
I graduated from high school on June-11-2011. I'm 19 right now. I'm turning 20 in December. I like playing video games, and board games. I like reading Sci-Fi, and World War II novels, and what not.

Does he look like he takes steroids? He's mad over the no weight dropping rule.

So he acts out like a child because he can't follow a simple rule. I don't see why anyone other than children would think he is in the right.

Planet fitness is an awful gym for people who actually want to work out, in my opinion.

I was implying roid rage, it happens alot. Also if he's tossing around the weights he's a gym clown and should be prohibited acces from the gym. There's a strict policy about dropping weights and it's for a good reason. If you can't train your body with some respect for the place you have no business in the gym.

Or maybe he's mad because dropping weights is completely normal and he's being kicked out for it. If you don't know anything about basic weight lifting, don't comment.

I never said it wasn't. The point is if you go to a place that has rules such as a gym you follow them or else you get kicked out it is really that simple. If you want to through a tantrum because you couldn't do that and you are a grown man then you are in the wrong no matter how you look at it. As I said if you agree with his actions you are a child that doesn't understand how rules work.

Do I encourage his actions? No. Do I blame him for doing it? No. At my college, people drop weights all the time. I try not to, but I've done it once because of muscle failure after a few reps and sets. It's literally unavoidable if you're actually doing an engaging workout. If you look at it, he doesn't seem to be doing it on purpose. Again, if you don't understand weightlifting, you probably shouldn't be in this thread.

Honestly I don't care what his excuse is. Whether he worked out too hard or dropped them due to lack of care he is still responsible for following the rules. If you can't do that then it is your fault since you should be able to control your own body especially for being an adult. If anything he could have simply left, but he didn't he had a tantrum like a child. You are essentially saying acting out like a child is an ok thing to do if you didn't follow the rules which is extremely immature.

I have rowing in a top national rowing team of Holland for 3 years.

I have been working out in the gym for 3 consecutive years now, with a few minor breaks because of injuries.

Never, ever have I dropped a weight, not even one time even when Fmaxing. Dropping weights because of 'muscle failure' is utter bull-blam!-. If you can't normally lift a weight don't pick it up in the first place. There is no excuse for dropping them other then 'macho' behaviour.

Dropping heavy -blam!- in a place with people in it - good idea or bad idea?

Also lol at above comment

I urge you to take a course if physiology. And I get your point. If someone broke the rules in my home, I'd be angry too. Allow me to break this down.

You have a gym.
People work out in a gym.
Muscle failure happens when people work out.
People sometimes drop dumbbells when they work out.
The gym, where people work out, expects people not to do a common thing, at a gym.

You can have a rule that says don't slip in the ice rink, but don't be surprised or mad when it happens.

I understand the situation and I am still saying he is wrong. Nothing you have told me so far has made it so he is in the right to do what he did. I can maybe see him getting upset and going to another gym, but to have a tantrum is just downright childish. Simply put you can think rules are stupid and unrealistic to follow, but that doesn't mean you are in the right to break them and act out like a child.

You have no idea what you're talking about do you?

Why do you say that?
Now I don't know about the gym you go to, but the floor in the weights areas tend to be sort of absorbent and slightly bouncy (probably not the right word...but still). What I said makes complete sense. If I dropped my weights after I was done, it is completely possible that they could get a slight bounce and injure me/someone else if they were close.
I never see people drop weights. Must just be you and your buddies

At the very least the rule would be there for insurance purposes

I'd suggest that the padding is also an aid to your bones as well, but that is by the by.
I doubt you'll really be reprimanded for dropping your weights from an inch or so unless you're confronted by a somewhat overzealous employee, but really if you're that close to the ground, might as well go all the way down.
Its the same etiquette as when using resistance machines and taking the strain all the way till the weights have touched down and not letting them slam.

About 33,500 students at my University, and my gym is the most student friendly in terms of pricing (it was actually set up by students originally), and like I say - never witnessed anybody dropping weights
