Did you know it's perfectly legal to own a Flamethrower?

I have always wanted to own a Rocket Launcher of some sort. I think I might buy one for my midlife crisis.

Why do we, civilians, need an Assault Rifle?
Assault rifles are specifically rfiles that have a selector that can switch between semi-auto and full-auto. Such weapons are heavily regulated, and typically only used for target shooting and by collectors.

It's self explanatory.
It's really not. There is no established definition for what makes a weapon "military grade."

We have been able to have guns for close to 300 years now

And look where the people with those guns have gotten us, into terror because they're on some crazy rampage killing citizens each day.
The same day of the shooting a Chinese man stabbed 22 children. No one died, luckily, but some were hospitalized.
Don't use that as an argument, seriously.

Anyways, the military is the military for a reason. You want to handle an M16A4, M67 grenade, drive a tank, operate a mortar or whatever the -blam!-, go join the military.

Military grade could be anything from an AR-15 to a Springfield 1863 in my eyes.

Actually they should be allowed with full auto for purchase. The intent of the constitution when regarding the statement, 'the right to bear arms' was to allow the populace to arm itself in a manner that is equal to the military and police force, so that under no circumstance the government could for whatever reason rule them by force.

Also AR doesnt reference Assualt Rifle, like you think OP, it means ARmaLite.

Finally i know this is all in reference to the shootings, a better solution would to lift restrictions on gun types sold, but allow a new category in the background database, were psychologists and other professional can mark a patient as 'do not pass' for psychological reasons.

Well, if you wish to denote it as military, then it would have to be fully auto, which can be obtained, but is far more difficult. The flood needs t educate itself on these matters.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

The problem is you ultimately can't prevent these things from happening.

If someone wanted to kill/hurt a bunch of people, they will.

Look at the guy in China with a knife.

Military gear without military training is going to lead to a lot of problems, you know that right?

You might as well go with the Israeli mindset and make military service mandatory.

What I meant was they both saw Military service at one time in history, so it's hard to label the semi-autos. The Springfield was just in there just as a joke, but was still military grade at one point in time.

OP, a pistol or a hunting rifle won't help in that case, an AR-15 or an AK-47 would do justice.

The guy in China didn't actually manage to kill anybody (although he did lop of a few fingers and ears). He was also restrained because he couldn't attack from a distance with a knife

If he had a gun, that would be a different story. But he didn't , because China now controls them tightly after a few school shootings of their own.

I see a pattern.

What this shows it that if a human wants to harm or kill, they'll find a way to do it. Cars, for example, are completely legal but also very deadly, and yet we trust people with them.

wut

A knife is really deadly close range and far easier to obtain than a gun, plus it doesn't need ammo or re-loading.

You could easily seriously hurt or kill many people with a knife cutting them deep anywhere.

You know, i did a little looking, and military grade doesnt refer to weapons and the damage they do, but the manufacturing process moreso. Also, as one poster presented,
All of these are semi-auto, and all other than the PSL take a smaller round than my Rem 700 that I use for hunting. A rifle you would use in combat has an intermediate round. They are between a rifle round, and a hand gun round. On a battle field the intent isn't to kill the enemy, but to take him out of the fight. If I wound you it will take you and the guys helping you out of the fight. It would be inhuman to hunt big game with an AR-15.

. The term Military grade, is highly misleading, just like assault rifle.

Or the dude years ago, that sawed a mans head off on a bus.

But regulating guns in the sense that its hard for someone who has been psychologically been given a 'no go' on purchasing, you are removing a legal ability to buy weapons for nefarious reasons.

What I was replying to was the guy saying that military weapons should be given to anyone who can afford them unless they have a history of mental health issues or whatever.

His reasoning was to arm the populace in-case of invasion. If you want to do that, just make a very open reserves service or mandatory military training. Giving out the gear without telling people how to use it right will lead to people misusing it.

I thought we were trying to stop the massacres. There are two knife massacres that are in my memory than gun massacres.

One guy with a knife is going to kill a lot less people than one guy with a gun.

A gun is point, shoot, and you will injure someone. Easy to do in close range, but 'close range' can extend up to a hundred metres.

A knife is slice, or stab while moving many parts of your body to the best effect, something which is not easy to do unless taught. Knives are deadly when used in the right place, but the right place is hard to get unless you've been taught, especially if your target plans to fight back.

You can run from a knife. You can't run from a bullet.

And no, knives don't always land pointy end in.
