But it is equally clear that political threads continue and thrive even with moderator observation and indeed contribution. Enforcement is inconsistent, it has been for as long as I've bothered to pay attention to politics in the flood, and so long as the most that happens is the threads in question eventually get locked and rac is banned for being himself most folk just move on and accept it as the way things are. But trying to pretend that all political threads are locked on sight is simply wrong.

This is not only extremely well written, but also true. I share the same experience, which was part of the reason I created this thread . There's enough rule breaking content on the forums and only inconsistent moderation to counter it.

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

Moderation has always had some level of inconsistency here (at least in my time), when are some of you going to learn to just accept it? Yeah, it's not perfect. What is?

People are going to complain until it is at a satisfactory level of consistency.

Don't be naive. If you think forum moderation is inconsistent, check out some other forums. Or argue with a police officer when he writes you a ticket for 5mph over the speed limit when you have gotten away with it before.

Or, as I've stated before, this is a gaming site. So lets talk games instead of guns.

I honestly don't think I could have come up with a worse analogy.

Police officers are so consistent in their enforcement of speed limits that I always drive exactly 10 km/h (I'm Canadian) over the limit and I've never been ticketed for it.

Never. Not once, ever.

In fact, I make it a point to set my cruise control at 10 km/h over the stated limit whenever I'm on the highway.

Unfortunately they're not. It doesn't help that The Flood never reports the thread, but instead spend all their time contributing to it. So much to the point where if a moderator wasn't online during the time of it's creation it will get 200+ replies, and leaves people thinking certain political discussion in general is okay which is not the case.

Seriously, wait for the time where The Flood has no moderation going on, and then make a thread on Same-Sex Marriage. The thread will light up in flames and nothing will be done about it. No one can lock it cause no moderation is there. No one will report it cause The Flood is incompetent to do so, and it will teach new comers that this sort of behavior is okay. It never got locked cause it died before the moderator got on, and no one reported it so he's never alerted about it.

Either you're ignorant to the definition of analogy, or you're trolling.

My younger brother is a cop and I've seen this first hand. So argue your thread suited "experiences" more. Either way, your question in the OP has been answered.

Either you're ignorant to the definition of analogy, or you're trolling.
Analogy - A comparison between two things, typically on the basis of their structure and for the purpose of explanation or clarification.

The post you responded to was talking about consistency in the moderation on this site. As a counter-point, you used the example of consistency in enforcement of speed limits.

My comment to you was that you chose a poor example for comparison (the active word in the definition of "anaogy"), because police enforcement of speed limits is extremely consistent, which is contrary to the point you were (seemingly) trying to make.

If there's any part of that that still doesn't make sense to you, I guess I am trolling.

My point was not that it never happens at all. It was simply that it is rare. Rare enough, in fact, that it made for an extremely poor analogy.

I don't think anyone expects perfection on the topic of moderator consistency. In fact, the quote that started this particular discussion was simply that "People are going to complain until it is at a satisfactory level of consistency."

My point was that it's rare in the jurisdictions that you frequent, but that doesn't mean that it is rare in all jurisdictions, which is what you've implied.

I happen to live near a jurisdiction notorious for pulling people over for going <5mph over the limit or not stopping at a stop sign for the full 3 seconds, as well as looking for any cause at all to justify a vehicle search. Suffice to say, it is a jurisdiction where what you claim is rare is in fact frequent. (And I'll note that I don't think that this means it is frequent in all or even most places.)

So please, cough up something other than anecdotal evidence if you're trying to assert that an observed trend is universal.

You know, I've been wondering what counts as as being a jerk for a long time. I don't understand why the mods don't care even though every single time you post you act like you have a huge stick up your arse. Not once I've seen you post without your obnoxious and negative attitude. It seems every time you post you try your best to make other people look stupid which is probably the only reason you even visit this forum.

Now I'm probably going to be banned for harassment like I got once before for calling you out, but I don't really care.

Quit being an annoying prick.

OT: I think it's pretty obvious that when the discussion moves from guns to the laws about guns, it's political discussion.

So.... You're saying that what you've described isn't consistent? You used the word "notorious", which would seem to imply that they've developed some sort of reputation based on their history. That sounds to me like they've done a pretty good job of setting your expectations and adhering to those expectations.

I'm not claiming that every police force is absolutely consistent with every other police force from every other place on the earth. That would be a little much to expect. By the same token, I do not expect the moderators of this site to be consistent with the moderators of another, unrelated site. I would speculate that all people really expect is internal consistency.

This thread is a real bummer. If I wanted to read comments from people telling each other that they are wrong or stupid, I would visit the website of a cable news network.

Bungie.net is better than that. Isn't it?

I got lost when someone was trying to convince us that political discussions are not political - or something. Then, I just got depressed. I wonder if there is a clean knife in the kitchen I can use to slice open a few layers of tissue on my forearm. That would feel better than this.

Why do you hurt me?

Correct, because it's pretty safe to assume that they aren't pulling over everyone on I-35 doing 71mph. In fact, I know they don't. But they do get some. That's inconsistent.

On the subject of hurting yourself because of something other people do. It's because you hate yourself, when you inflict actual harm on yourself.

Why would anyone want to spend time visiting a place where consensus on all things was uniform? You'd be better served talking to yourself. Arguments and disagreements are the same things as "telling people they are wrong" (although with presumably more tact) and that is going to happen so long as there are at least two people here. So, beside the hyperbole of your post I have to ask - are you upset because of what appears to me to be a relatively tame (though emotionally invested) discussion or because the topic of the discussion involves the rules and the official stance of the web and moderation team is that they are infallible?

Not in the slightest. This site, in my seven+ years of visiting, is actually more polite than it has ever seemed to be.

Besides, if Bungie.net was to be strictly about games and the studio, then the administration would remove The Flood. The Flood is here, so why stifle "off topic" conversation from those who are doing it politely.
