This thread is a real bummer. If I wanted to read comments from people telling each other that they are wrong or stupid, I would visit the website of a cable news network.

Bungie.net is better than that. Isn't it?

I got lost when someone was trying to convince us that political discussions are not political - or something. Then, I just got depressed. I wonder if there is a clean knife in the kitchen I can use to slice open a few layers of tissue on my forearm. That would feel better than this.

Why do you hurt me?
Sounds like someone is getting SAD. The Seattle area is known for having this issue. My advice, get an indoor growing setup, grow some herbs or some orchids. I too live in an area that sees more clouds, for and rain than sunshine. Also Bungie should put a few Halogen lights in the kitchen/break room. I'v always said, a happy developer is a good developer.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

To be honest, I think the mods don't do a great job with political threads. I've seen plenty of hot-topics on The Flood discussing subjects which are undoubtedly related to politics go on without being locked.

That's a totally normal response.

Moderation has always had some level of inconsistency here (at least in my time), when are some of you going to learn to just accept it? Yeah, it's not perfect. What is?
People are going to complain until it is at a satisfactory level of consistency.

Don't be naive. If you think forum moderation is inconsistent, check out some other forums. Or argue with a police officer when he writes you a ticket for 5mph over the speed limit when you have gotten away with it before.

Or, as I've stated before, this is a gaming site. So lets talk games instead of guns.
First of all, I don't complain about moderation consistency, I've accepted it a long time ago. Tell that to the people who still haven't accepted it, not me.

Also, we don't only talk about games on this website. I'll talk about other stuff I enjoy talking about on this website when there's nothing I wish to talk about regarding games. I've grown too accustomed to this community to simply go on a different site to conduct such discussions.

a satisfactory level of consistency.
Please elaborate.
How should I know? I'm not one of the people who complains about these things. It's probably different for each person.

I gaze upon the stars and see the majesty that is the universe.

EGO mos bulla astrum.

I've never understood why Bungie didn't just put in a heavily regulated political rule wherein discussion of politics is forcibly kept civil and any violation is banned. Roosterteeth has a political forum where they can discuss such things.

This is a long term community and Bungie.net has become something extremely regular to people's lives here over the years. Political discussion just seems like a step forward with the rules.

Am I going to get banned for saying the word regulation now? :P

Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Sorry BBB, gotta agree with the masses.

Gun control is a legal issue, and therefore a political discussion.

I am utterly baffled as to why this is considered a political thread. The main topic of the thread was specifically about guns and not legislation at all, and the most recent discussion being had in the thread was specifically about gun classification in a nonlegislative context. This mentality makes no sense to me.

This was not in any way a political thread. It has nothing to do with legislation, political parties, political ideologies, etc.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

The topic of the thread is in no way or form a political topic. So yes, you are correct. BUT, the discussion evolves into a political discussion.

Laws are referenced for citation purposes in the thread, but I don't see anyone lobbying for or against a law or piece of legislation.

  • 12.18.2012 9:19 PM PDT

I didn't see any posts saying the thread was locked because it was political. I think it was locked because at this point in time (after what has just recently happened) the last thing we need is another gun thread.

Not saying that gun threads are bad. The thing though is, you can't trip over a Sniper Rifle without falling onto a stock pile of Assault Rifles next a couple of SMG's due to all the gun threads we have been having lately.

By that logic, why weren't MLP threads banned at the height of their popularity? Or Halo 4 threads?

  • 12.18.2012 9:33 PM PDT

Even during the height of MLP's popularity, we weren't having nearly as many threads about it as we're having now. You got me with the Halo 4 subject though, although I never get tired of arguing over Halo's degrading quality, so I'll still welcome those threads.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

So threads should be locked because you dislike the topic of conversation or because you've seen too many similar topics?

Well at least you're not making the rules.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.
~M.D~

Now correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't 'political discussion' have to do with politics? So political discussion is about politics? So talking about politics is political discussion? Politics is political discussion. Don't talk about politics and you won't get banned for political discussion. k?

It's pretty clear BBB is asking what constitutes politics in reference to the site. Technically, politics is:The activities associated with the governance of a country or area.So does that mean we can't talk about laws? So anyone who talked about the Activision/Infinity Ward lawsuit in the original leak thread was against the rules and deserved a warning, official or otherwise? Not being able to discuss laws makes a lot of discussion that people (including Mods) discuss on these boards regularly.

Hey, DeeJ? I'm all for sarcastic point-across-getting remarks and quips on this site, but can you please not joke about self-harm?

I expect that from stress-filled adolescants in the Flood. Not from the Assistant to the Community Manager at Bungie.

Giggity Giggity Goo - Quagmire

I can see as how gun control issues would be seen as political because gun control laws are decided by politics and it is currently a big issue due to recent events.

The concept really isn't that difficult. As I said before, no topic is inherently political. Even politics. There's strategy, history, psephology, theory; all topics within politics that are not only potentially discussed without political elements, but best discussed in that way.

Besides, what's wrong with telling people they're wrong? Would you really prefer everyone danced in a field full of flowers pretending everyone's opinion has worth? It's disrespectful.

You should probably be more annoyed you've got people responsible for enforcing your rules going from Discussion of ... gun control laws is unquestionably political discussionto the entirely contradictoryAgain, yes, the thread was potentially political, but we left it open due to its non-political contextin the time it takes to blink and insisting not only are these statements without conflict but that the thinking behind them is the same as it always has been, on both counts quite clearly wrong.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"
