Subject: Multiplayer games where the environment is also a hazard...

OMGZZ!!!!!!

"It's Afghanistanimation!"

Either if this idea can be achieved during this generation, or the next. What if in the future, when ever we see new multiplayer games; like a next gen CoD or Battlefield. What if the environment itself became a natural hazard?

By that I mean random events occur at different points on the map. Lets say that you are playing Battlefield, you rush into a house for a good vantage point but then the ground starts to violently shake. Dust kicks up everywhere and obscures your vision. Suddenly the building starts to fall apart around you. You make a mad dash to clear the wreckage but when you land on the ground, dust covers the entire map and the shaking disorients your character.

Something like that on random would really make a game something unique. Even random server located weather and day/night cycles would be cool.

What do you guys think?

Gears of War 2 says hi.

A cornered fox is more dangerous than a jackal.

And from FOX, two phantoms were born.

Black Ops 2 has that one map with the hazardous train..

Randomness is never good in a competitive game. Perhaps if it was on a timer or something it might work.

Pretty sure stuff like this has been done. Several new ME3 maps incorporate a hazard and at least 1 GOW2 has done this.

It would certainly train you to be more aware.

Halo 4 Solace.

The map is one big cluttered piece of -blam!-.

Well I am not a big fan of GOW's MP so I would not know.

Agreed. Imagine how much complaining would occur due to environmental deaths.

  • 12.17.2012 3:02 PM PDT

Stalactites on Waterworks anyone?

  • 12.17.2012 3:03 PM PDT

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

If it was a themed map with an earthquake(like in the new BF3 maps) and structures would fall apart it would be really cool.

  • 12.17.2012 3:03 PM PDT

The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown

Anarchy Reigns has some Hazardous events during the multiplayer.
I wouldn't call them environmental though.

I could see it working in a social type playlist but ranked no. It would be interesting from time to time seeing the map randomly shift or something.

I would not happen every single game. It should be a rare ocurance for an earthquake of that magnitude to happen. More common things like rain, wind, and a little fog would be seen a little more.

Neither am I, but a lot (like 70%) have enviromental effects. Some transfer over to Hoard mode which is how I know about them.

Sometimes a train hits you on a Station map. On desert maps there is usually a timed sandstorm that makes aiming harder. Emulsion Surges, Blizzards, Razor Hail, Kreel ripping you limb from limb because someone shut down the power, Gears has a large variety of environmental hazards.

I see. Interesting... I do agree that this would not really be good for ALL games. It should be an option like a filter for servers. "Check for Environmental Hazards"

I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Like the train in that one Halo 2 map.
That could be cool though, OP.

"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bull-blam!-, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."-Lemmy of Motorhead

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

It's been done, a fair amount actually.

Turok Evolution had raptors in some of it's multiplayer maps, even. Watch out...

you are a good translator
Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

Turok.

Nothing says hazardous like a velociraptor pouncing at you from the bushes while fighting other players.

  • 12.17.2012 3:19 PM PDT

Talk smack, fight back

Ya Turok had velocerapters in it's mulitplayer, they were pretty fun
Oh, and even though I liked the game, the population disappeared in weeks after launch.

Walking along a swamp map in halo and getting eaten by a space alligator would be awesome.
