I got a tattoo when I was 17 without my parents knowing. I had an older friend who knew a tattoo artist. It was a long time ago. Back when Metallica was good. I guess you can see where this is going?

Ben, I hope we never meet. You'll know too much about me based on my sleeves. I'm a worthless character of imagination, you can interpret too much from who I am.

I presented legitimate presumptions based on possible reasoning behind a certain tattoo. But the way you dress can also tell me things about yourself. However minor those may be, it still does. The tattoo may represent minor things as well, but it still represents something of yourself.

I cannot define someone based solely off of a tattoo. But I can delineate something. But the more you know about the person, the more apparent the reasoning behind their actions are. This includes the action to get a tattoo.

You would be annoying to talk to, and rude to boot, since you think one thing generalizes a whole group of people.

Kinda like a racist to be honest.

Tattoo fanatic/collector here.

Don't get a tattoo at 17, OP. I advise against it, and for many, many reasons. A tattoo is something that should be researched for purpose, as well as the establishment where you get it done. It isn't a whim decision, and should be something you do to your body with much respect.

Hold it off, son. I waited till I was 21 for my first, researched the artist, and even did a sit in session with the person till I was comfortable with her. There's no need to rush something like this. If you're only 17, wait a little while.

No you didn't, you made a very uneducated generalization based on some sort of self concluded allusions that you and only you will believe. I doubt you'd be able to spend a year with me and figure out who I am. Other people are predictable and it's easy to stick my finger in the holes I can find and tear it apart before it even actually irritates me. You, are easy.

You'll never be able to base or judge a character just on the way they look. That's how I hide myself. Personal possessions? It's what people are fond of, easy to find their hobbies and figure out what most of their time spent was done. You, come into a thread about tattoos and continue to say things out of your ass that literally hold no stimulating thoughts when I read your words.

In my world, you are counted as a commoner. You hold no interest because of your lack of openness and ability to just not give a crap about what other people get tattooed on their bodies. There are certainly tattoos I would never get, like the OP's choice.

Right now I'm wearing red pajamas with a red v-neck.

You generalized a whole group of people in a negative light and belittled them, based on a perception of image, your thoughts and opinions are of an ignorant pseudo-bigot.

You stated opinions with no valid logic, get off your high horse kid.

That's pretty much correct. It's like this girl I knew who posted the most insipid crap on her facebook page. She claimed that it all had nothing to do with her as a person really, and was not meant to be taken seriously. I understood the not serious part, but I had to ask her: "So these are things that you don't like, or don't really care about, since they don't reflect on you as a person? Why do you post them then? Is it some type of strange self-torture?"

Everything a person does is a reflection of part of themselves.

Halo 3

^ Indeed, Elegiac.

I will admit I was too harsh on the generalization but I proceeded to claim it as a viewpoint based on the personal experience I have seized (so far). Then I proceeded to give you an explanation to how I might look at someone getting a certain tattoo.

No, not everyone is the same. I know that. But like I said, every action is done for purpose. And sometimes when a certain unique action is taken (like getting a tattoo), you presume certain reasoning took place in order to commit to such an action.

I should add that you should take things with a grain of salt. If you think you've found out something about the character of person, keep it in low regards until you've found proof.

When I see someone with a tattoo, I see someone who does not like who he is. I see someone who lacks confidence in himself as a person. He may feel like he needs to be better accepted by his peers, the society he lives in. A tattoo tells me you lack dignity.

Then you say tattoos mean you lack dignity, that the person is uncertain with who they are, and they have no confidence, and needs acceptance.

Stop acting like what you said is an acceptable and normal way to approach people based on image, or rather go say that to every person you think that about and see the responses you get.

Stop digging your hole deeper, and grow the -blam!- up.

The only tattoo that is "stupid" is the one not done properly. Stupid is a personal interpretation. You make it sound like it is some universal truth to all. It saddens me to see more senior members here who still have these ideas that are so narrow and linear after all this time here.

Goes back to that whole age=/=maturity feud that seemed to exist for a while. You only mature through experience, just like leveling up. Guess what you need more of, guess people like being level capped comfortably or something.

Alright whatever don't read it.

I read it. It really doesn't help what you've been trying to argue in this thread.

While everything a person does is a reflection of themselves, assuming one specific thing, getting a tattoo in this instance, is always done for the same reason by everyone is just stupid. To think that you can judge a persons character and go on to make sweeping generalizations about them based solely on their desire to get a tattoo is pretty well the definition of prejudice.

That you are also acting bigoted in this thread is simply a reflection of your own character.
