Can someone tell me how these 2 different ways of shooting change a FPS? I know the main differences, but I'm unsure of how this changes anything. Also, state which you prefer and why, please.

It affects how accurate you have to be to damage a target.

Hit scan your bullet goes where you shoot no matter what

projectile the bullet travels. will normall land behind your target depending on the distance/speed it travels.

Hitscan = Instant hit, no need to lead your shot

Projectile = Not instant hit, bullets have travel time, leading your shots necessary at certain ranges

I am a monument to all your sins

With projectile you need to compensate for travel time, generally making combat more challenging, especially long range sniping against moving targets.

Hitscan- If your reticule is on the target, your bullet will hit them no matter what. (Halo 2)
Projectile- Bullets are more of a physical object, having to be led to account for distance. (Halo 3)

If I wanted projectile, I'd be buying real guns in real life.

Give me my hitscan when it comes to vidya.

I fly planes and doesnt afraid of anything

Except Aria, she scares the hell outta me

Hitscan is interesting

Imagine you're playing a hitscan game, and wherever your crosshair is aimed there is an invisible line, travelling from the barrel of your gun, perfectly straight, forever, only stopping when it hits something - be that wall, or enemy player

when you hit the trigger, the entire invisible line suddenly becomes dangerous, and will hurt any player it is touching and put a bullet hole in any wall. this is more or less how Hitscan works.

Projectile is like.. well, you figure it out, if you know what gravity is im sure you have it covered. gold star for you.

Hitscan: Instant travel time. Whatever is standing in front of your gun the second you pull the trigger is hit.

Projectile: Factors in other elements, such as bullet drop and a set velocity. This requires the shooter to lead his shots and/or adjust for elevation.

There isn't much of a difference in close range depending on how you play, but you can imagine how powerful a hitscan sniper rifle would be in a game like Battlefield. Guy could be a mile away, and all you'd have to do is aim at his head and pull the trigger. Instant kill.

I see.... so what do you guys prefer? I like hitscan for my long range guns (been playing TF2 as Sniper) but projectile for everything else.

Use your head. The one on your shoulders. No really, just try. Please?

Projectile weapons are more connection dependent than hitscan weapons. While it is nice to have to account for bullet drop over distance, I'd rather have a shallower learning curve with more reliable hits.

KOTOR

Projectile is very obvious in Battlefield 2 BC sniping

There's a “U” and “I” in union but just an “I” in my beliefs

If you didn't Play Halo: CE or Halo 2 MP, your opinion about Halo means nada.

CE + H2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> H3+Reach+H4

depends on the game.

In Halo I want hitscan.

in a game like BF I want projectile
