Since the shooting, ALL classroom doors must now be locked and you are required to knock three times before someone can go and open the door. I honestly think we are blowing this out of proportion. All the talk of giving teachers guns, i think are asinine. Think of the older elderly teachers. Some wouldn't have the guts or courage to use or even shoot it. I think a tazer would be more practical to be honest. It doesn't kill.

GOAT

Wow.

My college had armed men hiding out on it and we changed nothing. You must go to one of those midwestern colleges.

I've got a fan!

Locking the door is a fire hazard and would make it even more dangerous if a gunman were to be in the classroom...your college is silly.

There is talk of giving teachers guns? How is that a good idea?

Heavy weighs the crown, low hangs the head who wears it.

Sounds like your school has a case of security theater.

EXACTLY! Although, since 9/11, aren't all pilots armed? Or was that a lie? Something like that. I think it's a crazy idea to give teachers a gun, it's insane if you ask me.

I'll give you the second part, but how do you figure it's a fire hazard? Assuming it's the kind of lock that only keeps the door from being opened from the outside, it would be no different than having the door closed normally.

There is a classified number of federal air marshals that are armed on certain flights. If you're flying into D.C. or any major airport, you can bet your ass there's a federal marshal on your flight.

Which are armed with tazers. Could tazers work for the teachers?

*Less likely to kill*

But yeah, I think your school is over reacting, and should get tazers instead.

Break down, every single one of you.

My school hasn't done anything. The only thing that changed recently was that the karate teacher can no longer teach us to knife fight. That was last year, though.

OP your college must be in some small town or something or else nothing would have changed. Hell someone got stabbed like 2 miles away recently and we constantly get bomb threats. Life goes on like nothing happened. Then if you go where my brother does he constantly gets alerts about people getting robbed/shot since he lives in a major city. As for the door thing that is pretty pointless imo since if everyone on campus knows about it then it is a useless rule.

No, and marshals are armed with handguns. A tazer requires close proximity and is much slower than a bullet.

Federal Air Marshals have guns. I think it's the Sig P226 or something similar.

It's a bad idea to arm teachers imo. Personally I'd suggest giving every school a School Resource Officer.

We had one in our high school.
