Subject: Could North Korea defeat South Korea ALONE?

This is assuming no help from the western countries. It is said the US will pull out of South Korea in a few years due to the end of the co-operation operations in the Korean peninsula so could the massive 9 million man army of Kim Jong Un defeat the South Koreans all on their own? I think what makes the difference is that North Korea has nuclear capabilities. I feel Seoul would be vaporized to a nuclear attack and would in end the end fall to occupation.

There's no telling what would happen, but I feel North Koreans are gravely underestimated. Aged weaponry, sure, but I'd feel an imminent invasion would mean North Koreans buying weaponry from China and Russia prior to upgrade in the least. What do you guys think would happen?

Break down, every single one of you.

The scary thing is that if North Korea does invade South Korea, they basically just started World War III. America will step in and defend South Korea, but because the US interfered then Russia will take North Korea's side and so will China. Then it is basically the US and South Korea against North Korea, China and Russia. The UK may try to back us, but they just dismantlement their navy basically because the US has one, so they don't need one. The rest of our possible allies don't have armed forces to compare to us or the big communist countries.

So nope. SK would win.

They made it 2/5 times they tried to get into space. That beats our record and that of the Soviet Union by far when they started their ballistic missile programs.

Russia technically isn't communist anymore, but who knows how long that will be with Putin in power. That man really hates the U.S.

South Korea would destroy them - they might lose Seoul, but SK has a larger army, fighting population and more vehicles / weapons.

You could take a time machine to 1960's communist block countries, or, you could just visit North Korea.

The point is this: Those countries were dangerous and although the technology they used is dated they had the ability to create a global disaster.

Actually, I'm pretty sure North Korea has a larger fighting population and army.

SK has got a superior airforce and tankforce.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

It would be an utter mess, but SK is likely to win because of all the US support prior to the conflict.

No.

Even touching South Korea would involve going into conflict with the U.S service man in the area

North Korea:
Population - 24,457,492
Fit for Service - 10,066,704

South Korea:
Population - 48,754,657
Fit for Service - 21,033,275

So no, South Korea would still wipe the floor with North Korea.

You know, those numbers don't surprise me considering the fact that people are starving in North Korea so that the money could go to nuclear weapons development.

It really all depends on how the battle would be carried out. NK's army is massive but it's not exactly all that mobile. It's best option is to defend the DMZ from a SK invasion.

On an offensive side for NK, there only real capability from an air attack would be to hit Seoul, which would be devastating because of the massive civilian presence. There are also reports of literally hundreds, if not thousands, of underground tunnels that NK has allegedly been building for years which lead in to SK territory, so there is the fear of a preemptive attack, although it is only likely that this would happen if combat were already occurring. Think underground guerrilla warfare.

All in all, SK has the technology to win the battle of Korea if it really wanted to. NK couldn't compete with the military advancements if SK struck first. You have to wonder though, if a full scale civil war were erupt again, how many NK soldiers would surrender or defect just to get out of NK.

Rustled Jimmies

this should help clarify

You see all of the lights? thats the major cities in both countries. Now, you may ask yourself why its like that, well SK doenst alienate it's citizens like NK does. In NK they don't have internet, cell phones, or any contact from the outside world. They are brainwahsed into thinking that NK is the only safe place for them and the only place for them to live. They have no idea what its like on the outside world.

So if NK decides to fight SK, SK would win hands down.

NKs don't need airstrikes to raze Seoul, they have hundreds, if not thousands of artillery emplacements that can hit Seoul.

And anyone who thinks China or Russia would back NK is an idiot IMO.
