Over the last few years, I've decided that a few businesses don't deserve my money [Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, etc]. Most recently, I decided that I've had enough of Verizon. I refuse to be bullied around by a cell provider, so I begrudgingly paid the early termination fee and jumped ship. I'm now saving myself $60/month and am much happier at T-mobile.

Do any of you boycott companies for their practices? If so, why?

edit: voicing your opinion with your wallet works best, but is only effective if you tell the company/organization why you refuse to do business with them.

Not usually. Most boycotted companies are franchises, so you aren't hurting the corporation, but the guy who is simply trying to make a living.

Beyond that, it is a free market. I can't be mad at Verizon for finding cheaper ways of doing things.

I hate the fact that he would rather lay off employees than raise the cost of his pizza. And then to go on the news and say it. Sooo stupid. The crappy quality of their pizza is a secondary reason I boycott them.

I don't think so. How will companies ever know that you don't approve of their practices if you keep giving them money?

No, because boycotting is a sad. It's what losers do thinking that their tiny amount of money will have some form of impact on the company when all they're doing is making them selves feel better through their dillusions.

I just don't buy stuff I don't like/don't benefit from.

Ew, my username. :C

I came up with it when I was 10.

Siba, a Swedish home electronics company. Because of their very annoying TV spot that we saw 4 times PER BREAK around Christmas last year.

I currently boycott activision at the moment, i still enjoy the games that are releashed by the companies that they have leashed- so instead i buy them second hand from CEX so no money goes towards their profits.

I guess standing up for your values is "a sad".

Suit yourself. I make a point in not giving any money to any company that works against the good of all people [CFA, Salvation Army, etc]

C'mon now brah, that argument has been shown silly a while ago. Papa John's promotions of free pizzas increase sales and improves client retention. It generates revenue, not loses it.

But anyway, I don't really boycott any large brand-name companies that are recognizeable. I either like what they sell or I don't really.

For what reason?

  • 12.18.2012 11:43 AM PDT

No. But when I have a choice of where to go, I'll chose the company I like better.

Like if I could eat at chick fil a or next door at McDonald's? I'd choose chick fil a all the time.

I guess you could argue that I "boycott" Apple...since I have never owned/purchased any Apple product.

No, not really. I no longer do trade-ins with GameStop (or any other gaming store), because I think my games are worth more than the spare change I'll get for them, but I'll still buy games there, sometimes.
