What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

As a lawyer for a Fortune 50 company with a visible tattoo, I must admit that I live every day in mortal fear of being fired for alienating clients and not being of sound intelligence. I'm sure it will happen one of these days.
I seriously just snorted out loud at that. Thanks for making my customer ask me what was so funny.

Nobody is saying (or should say) that a person with a tattoo is someone akin to a failure. Tattoos are simply a projection of the self. This projection could mean a little to a lot.

Irrelevant.

Because anyone with a functioning brain knows that visible tattoos are not always culturally acceptable. To place one prominently on your face, neck, or hands means you are desperate for attention, and want people to have to deal with you feel is culturally acceptable. To an employer, you are a liability. Because you demand others are forced to look at what you consider art, you risk alienating potential partners, customers, and employees. That would affect my revenue.

Anyone of sound intelligence would also know that people often regret tattoos and they tend to look worse over time. To get one that takes effort to cover up later in life when it has become wrinkled, stretched, and gross demonstrates a clear lack of forward thinking.

This is classic.
Well well well, look who's desperate for attention!

So, let me get this straight. As 15yr employee with a fortune 500 company, not only am I a liability who's desperate for attention, but I'm also forcing people to deal with it while at risk of alienating them, too?

Maybe I am not of sound intelligence....

Let's pretend you are fresh out of college with no record to your name. You are interviewing for an entry level position.
Would you make an effort to cover that tattoo in an entry level job interview?

I would not, and in this hypothetical fantasy situation, I manage to get hired anyway, thus disproving your point.

Alright, I am disproved. Please everyone, enjoy your neck tattoos. I'm sure prospective employers will see them and think to themselves "This young person makes good choices, I will hire them over all these equally qualified candidates."

you know what's uglier than tattoos? close minded prejudice...and i could've sworn we've moved on from that over 40 years ago. i guess chickfila and the internet remind me otherwise.

when i'm 75 years old the last thing i'm going to worry about are my wrinkled tattoos that remind me of a much younger better time in my life.

a tattoo is one of the only things we can have and share as individuals that cannot be taken from us. i will take my tattoos to my grave.

i cannot wrap my mind around the mentality of some of you posting here because i cannot comprehend short sighted views on anything but i will leave you with one thought that i've always found interesting:

the only difference between tattooed people and people without tattoos is that people with tattoos don't care if you don't have tattoos.

You missed his arguments completely. The employer isn't the only one that matters when looking at your tattoo. It's everyone else you encounter that indirectly affects the employer. The fact that people find tattoos disenchanting is what drives employers to think twice when hiring people with tattoos.

Tattoos are voluntary communication. They are things you have chosen to advertise that you want others to see. So don't go acting like it's any sort of horrible persecution if someone doesn't like it. Don't throw yourself on a civil rights cross because people find a stretched out tramp stamp tacky as hell.

Many tattoos are entirely personal. Just because I choose to do something with my body does not mean everyone and their mothers have a right to openly judge me for it.

I think all tattoos are awful looking, regardless of the meaning behind them. That being said, any neck tattoos or face tattoos are definitely the worst. I can't take peoples' opinions or suggestions seriously if they have a neck or face tattoo.

Also, meaningless tattoos like the one OP posted are such a waste of time and money to get in the first place.

That's fine, just don't put it where people have to look at it to interact with you if you wish for people to be non-judgmental about it, is all. And if you are going to force people to look at it, for goodness sakes spend some money on it so it doesn't look like my one year old took a marker to your neck.

Here's an insane, more progressive solution... why don't people stop judging for it? Honestly, it's more difficult but I don't see why the non-harmful choices of an individual have to be limited because other people are insecure.

If people get a tattoo, why shouldn't I judge it? Obviously they want me to see it. I would think it's doing them a favor to take interest in whatever they cared enough about to dig into their skin with a needle. Why shouldn't I judge it like any other art or statement?

It just so happens that most tattoos are bad. People don't take the time to find a quality artist. I'm sorry, but that in itself reflects on a person if they are willing to permanently sport crappy art.

i don't. don't worry about me. i'm fine with it. i'm also fine with being judged for my ink. it tells me who i need to stay away from and your mindset towards, not only you telling me how i should handle my tattoos let alone your prejudice towards those that have them, also tells me that we as a culture still have a lot of growing up to do.

your efforts are wasted. i am not interested in changing your opinion. that goes back to being open minded of accepting people that are different than me. i don't understand this prejudice and like most people with tattoos i don't care to tell you how to live your life. maybe some day you will change your mind. if not, all good. to each their own.

This makes a lot of sense.

Moral: always invest in a good artist. If you aren't willing to, the tat probably isn't worth getting. If you aren't able to, then wait until you can.

That meme pic with the tatt'ed up guy at 80 wouldn't be what it is if he hadn't had a great artist.
