I would never hire anyone with a neck tattoo, even if it was a good looking tattoo.
But how would anyone know I had one if I had my hair down and shirt on.

Then why get it on your neck if you have to take care to hide it?
I wouldn't have to take a whole lot of time to cover it up with my hair or a shirt

Can you offer a rational reason for that?

I won't get a tattoo but I do think bodyart is nice depending on who it goes on. Why does it have to be the neck OP?
I feel like it belongs there....its a weird thing I know

What about your lower back?
um no it could be taken the wrong way and I don't want that.

Isn't the lower back a common place for tattoos
Have you heard the term "tramp stamp" before?

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

I have a tattoo and plan on getting more but I'd never get one in a spot I can't cover up. For professional reasons.

I hope it's worth it once you're 75 and it's become wrinkled, distorted and faded.

:P

If and when you make it to 75...this will be the least of your worries.

Because anyone with a functioning brain knows that visible tattoos are not always culturally acceptable. To place one prominently on your face, neck, or hands means you are desperate for attention, and want people to have to deal with you feel is culturally acceptable. To an employer, you are a liability. Because you demand others are forced to look at what you consider art, you risk alienating potential partners, customers, and employees. That would affect my revenue.

Anyone of sound intelligence would also know that people often regret tattoos and they tend to look worse over time. To get one that takes effort to cover up later in life when it has become wrinkled, stretched, and gross demonstrates a clear lack of forward thinking.

I understand. But I have to disagree with that "desperate for attention" part, because that's simply not true.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I don't buy it for a second. People are immediately drawn to look at anything out of place or obviously unnatural. Why would anyone put a colorful little billboard on their face, neck, or hands if they weren't begging for people to notice it?

Sure, some people do it for attention. Most people do it because they enjoy it.

I understand your point of not hiring people with neck tattoos, but to say that they all share the same motive for getting a tattoo is just ridiculous.

So, let me get this straight. As 15yr employee with a fortune 500 company, not only am I a liability who's desperate for attention, but I'm also forcing people to deal with it while at risk of alienating them, too?

Maybe I am not of sound intelligence....

Gotta say, I work with a lot of engineers who have visible tattoos, and it sure doesn't seem to be interfering with their careers. I know it hasn't interfered with mine.

Now, about Pat's "sound" mind......

As a lawyer for a Fortune 50 company with a visible tattoo, I must admit that I live every day in mortal fear of being fired for alienating clients and not being of sound intelligence. I'm sure it will happen one of these days.

If Superman died, then why was he so super?

Look, It's your body, if it means something to you, then do it. Nothing anyone says should sway you or your identity. Attacking people who have tattoos and saying they seek attention is the same thing, looking for attention from those that do have tattoos just so they can feel better about themselves for thinking they are better than someone else. When you're old, you will look at the art on your body, and while you MAY regret it, it doesn't change the fact that it helped make you who you are. Looking at people who have tattoos and judging them for them is the same as judging a book by it's cover. People are more than what's outside or on their skin. I can tell you that I know many amazing people who have tattoos, and I know that Necktatpat is more than his tattoos, he's an amazing dude that loves his friends and his son.

Just because someone has moral hangups over tattoos, or piercings or whatever, it doesn't make them right. It makes them rude and arrogant for not thinking better of people.

But what do I know, I don't have any tattoos.

If you want tattoos get them but I would advise that you stay away from getting one in an area that is visible. You might cost yourself job opportunities and decrease the perception of you in the eyes of professional people if they think you look like you just got out of prison.

I'm not saying a person isn't intelligent if they do those things, I'm saying any intelligent person can understand why choosing to can have consequences. Some consider tattoos tacky, some even find them blasphemous. That's just a simple fact. Most employers will be weary of someone who has them and whether or not they have the potential to alienate people. Not a judgement, just a fact of life.
