So I have always noticed that PC players have different fields of view when I watch a YouTube video, and I have kind of always liked this feature. However, I like many people cannot afford a gaming PC, so I have always wondered why this feature is less prevalent/non existent on console.

It's usually a console command within the game.

You can really mess up MW2 campaign on PC with 200+ FOV

FoV typically causes a dip in your FPS. I mean, when you "see" more of an area, the GPU has to load more. I imagine that's part of the reason why. Most games are optimized at their 30FPS and use as much as they can. Giving the ability to toggle FoV would force all the dev's to do optimization testing at both FoV's which would take presumably a lot of time.

PC players use different FOVs for different size monitors/resolutions.

It isn't changeable on consoles because usually you are sitting a decent distance away from the screen so a wider field of view isn't needed to stop any eye strain.

On a console, you're typically further back and looking at a bigger screen. A wider FOV at that distance would be disorienting since objects would appear smaller due to the stretched width.

Since you're much closer to the screen on a PC, you don't get that same effect.
