We should know better, because we are better.

I was on Kickstarter and I came across this project, Elite: Dangerous. While I have yet to pledge to it, even though it is a really unique project and I am interested in it, I was wondering if any of you had heard about it, and/or pledged to it.

To make this topic about more than Elite, have you ever backed a Kickstarter project? What do you think of the site, and the idea of crowd funding in general?

I think I've heard of the series.

Anyways, the Kickstarter projects I'm keeping an eye on are Planetary Annihilation, Ground Branch, and Project Takedown.

Relevant article I saw today.

84% of the top Kickstarter projects ship late. 32% of those projects haven't shipped at all yet even though they are due.

I bet the numbers are even worse if you look at just video games.

I suppose that is because there is no publisher or big company that is breathing down their necks to make the project ready on time. The only Kickstarter project I backed was being made by a company with a good track record, so I was willing to pledge.
