After the tragedy of the CT shooting, RIP to the victims, social psychologists are once again thumping their books on how video game violence encouraging real life violence.

I think that excessively violent or profane VG's shouldn't be played by kids, a 9 year old playing GTA is never a good thing.

However, I think that the studies linking gamers to violent behavior is flawed, people who are competitive and aggressive are naturally attracted to video games, they aren't created by putting a disc in their PC.

What do you guys think?

I'm not really an Apple person (Bananas forever) but damn, that's kinda sad.

People are responsible for their own actions; what they do is a reaction to stimuli, the stimuli does nothing personally.

The problem is that there isn't much proof linking games and violence.

And empirical evidence shows that most Floodians and 12 year old boys haven't shot up a school yet.

Who cares if I lie?

My younger brother just recently started playing some FPS games and he's a little more aggressive.

He's also starting his teenage years so there's that.

Study is currently inconclusive.

problem is that they think video gamers are morally tied to their actions in games, heck, I've murdered cities in skyrim, but I still pick up a piece of litter in the park.

I don't know why people don't obsess about the violence in movies and tv as much as they do in videogames. The gore in movies is much, much greater than in 99% of videogames.

The violence and video game argument is flawed, and there is no point explaining it because everyone here will most likely know why.

This isn't anything like Columbine, and video games are a huge industry now, so nothing will change. Don't worry about it.

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle- victorious"

There are many other factors that actually constitute to aggression. Gaming can't be used as a scapegoat all the time. People need to start realising that if they targeted gaming less, they would discover other factors that contribute to the rise in aggression.

You don't train a dog to sit by showing them videos of other dogs sitting, you train a dog by having him sit after a command and then rewarding him for it.

Videogames are more interactive than movies, so no matter how much more graphic movies are, games will definitely have more influence because there is an added level of interaction.

But to believe they are the sole cause of violence is ludicrously silly.
