I was having a debate whether or not theoretical science is just as or more important than "normal" science. What do you guys think?

like involves theories? do you know what science is?

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Theoretical work is needed before practical applications, if that's what you meant...

Ideas have to come from somewhere, and concepts are easier to define before you actually have the means to create what you've defined.

Theoretical science is just science and theories that we don't have the technology to prove or test.

Of course it's useful.

Well isn't theoretical science just coming up with theories using mathematics and doing thought experiments, among other things I can't remember, while most science is actually testing your theories in real life, and gathering observations in the field.

Life?
I have the internet and Doctor Who; i don't need a life.

useful =/= important

Also, theoretical science can lay groundwork for actual experiments to take place.

Theoretical physics can help us understand "regular" science better, so yeah.

This. Quantum Mechanics would not exist without theoretical science.
