Subject: There is no perfect game - so why complain?

Because by telling devs that our standards are high and we will not pay for half-assed games designed to appeal to the broadest possible audience, rather than actually being good, we motivate them to make their products better. (better meaning more complex and polished, with well thought out and executed story and mechanics)

Unfortunately, the number of people who have such standards and hold to them are not enough to actually provide much motivation. Not when there is a much larger mass of people who will jump on whatever the next big thing is and slurp it up while throwing money at the developers, even if it's not as good as other things out there, just because it's big and popular.
But complaining isn't the best way to get your voice heard; it just makes the devs more likely to ignore you.

Also, why not lower your standards and try to see the fun and positive aspects of games instead of nitpicking on the issues? Try to have a more optimistic outlook on every game you play, and they'll seem a lot funner. That's why even the worst games seemed so fun when we were younger; we wanted to have fun no matter what, so we capitalized on the good aspects of games and ignored the bad.

Are standards aren't that high just games in general have gone down a slippery slope downward since first couple years of 360s release. No one is innovative anymore.

With the current state of the industry, everyone wants to be cautious and avoid to take any serious risk for their games. And if someone tries to change something or add new features, the community might flame them to oblivion. Example: this forum.

Signatures are for little kids.

Let them vent.

They complain for awhile, say how they're not going to play any more and how much better such and such a game is going to be when it comes out.

Then the great new game comes out and again their hopes are dashed, again the game doesn't live up to their mental image of the perfect game they played once when they were 11.

The process keeps repeating, they get excited only to be let down again and again, that game they played when they were 11 looks better and better as times goes on.

So let them vent, and just be glad you aren't them. Imagine not liking something then spending hours and hours thinking of the thing you dislike, posting about it, going on and on like someone cares. Let them vent if it makes them feel happy for even 5 minutes.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Is this thread even real.

A real test of a man is if he is willing to scrape a sharpened razor up and down his junk just to please a woman.

Some games are more -blam!- than others.

Is that what game developers are supposed to do? Are they supposed to ignore problems and remain optimistic? Why is it that developers are allowed to be critical of and problem solve with their games but we aren't allowed to?

^This^.
Without constructive criticism, games would never recognize their faults.

Of course, in the case of near perfect games like Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption criticism probably should be kept to a minimum (or not at all - despite the obvious flaws like bugs).

But in games like the Halo series which comprises of a unique, loved, and "delicate" formula that gets changed? Yes, there should be bouts of criticism to ensure they remain true to their origins.

Nonsense. Criticism can never hurt a game, the only person with the power to do that is the person who sorts through that criticism and decides what needs to be done.

I meant how some people bashed Skyrim and RDR for having some bad bugs and glitches when the other 99.9% of the game was fine. There were people saying how they hated the game(s) for them when the rest of them were near perfection, and despite the fact that Rockstar and Bethesda ALWAYS patch and care for their games afterwards.

But offering ways to improve Skyrim and RDR in the form of constructive criticism? Yes please. People did this for Skyrim at release. Now, 3 DLCs and 8 patches later most of the criticism and faults of the game have dissolved.

That's the power of constructive criticism - and if this thread is making glances at Halo 4 - then there should definitely be a ton of constructive criticism aimed at the game, so the next Halo game can go the way those not satisfied with Halo 4 want it to go.

You missed the point. I was merely suggesting that people would enjoy the games more if they did so. Developers would need to look at the games more objectively because they actually make them instead of just playing them.

It's okay, as a player, to be conscious of a game's perceived flaws and suggest constructive criticism in a civil manner (i.e. not complaining) to devs in order to improve on it or future games, but don't let that ruin your experience. Complaining, specifically, creates a pessimistic atmosphere that is practically contagious to other players and, like I said before, it makes the devs less willing to act on criticism, so it's really bad for the community as a whole.
