So tell them off. And do post results, this can get hilariously funny very quickly.

He didn't even use the Bushmaster; it was left in his car.

Someone started a facebook group about banning Assault Rifles. I'm debating whether or not to tell them that they already are banned (in most states, at least).
Actually, real assault rifles are only banned in 15 states, but they're prohibitively expensive for most people to own (think tens of thousands of dollars).
It's late; I'll do it tomorrow.

because most ordinary hunting rifles are not built for quick reloading. Any mad gunman would most likely be killed before he could reload the gun a second time.

and fine, if you want to split hairs than let me get down to the nitty goddamn gritty. No american should have access to an automatic firearm. Deny them the ability to kill multiple targets per pull of the trigger. This doesnt stop the problem but goddammit it slows down the body count.
These are all magazine fed semi-automatic hunting rifles that could be quickly reloaded.

Also, only 2 registered fully automatic firearms have occurred in the US over the last 75 years. And none of the recent shootings (read, last 15 years or so) have used fully automatic firearms, so no, your second point is moot.

Columbine shooting? the guys used SMG's if im not mistaken. Automatic weapons.

you are really just splitting as many hairs as you can arent you?

Thanks for the additional info. Could I have a source to use for future reference, if it wouldn't bother you to do so?
Various state laws, plus some important ones such as the National Firearms Act of 1934, Gun Control Act of 1968, and the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986. Off the top of my head, New York, Illinois, Maryland, California, Washington, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Connecticut all ban automatic firearms, plus a few more.

For more reference there are 3 types of automatics as far as US gun laws are concerned.

May 19, 1986 is an important date because that is when no more automatic firearms could be registered due to the Hughes Amendment in the Firearm Owners Protection Act.

Registered with the ATF as legal for civilian ownership means that anyone living in any of those states that do not prohibit civilians from owning them can submit an ATF form 4 to allow one to be transferred to them.

The second type is a Pre Dealer sample, which means that any type 1 or type 2 FFL with a Class 3 Special Occupational Tax can buy that specific class of automatic firearm and own them as long as they want, including after they give up the FFL and or SOT.

The third type is a Post Dealer sample which means a Class 3 SOT can have that specific class pf automatic firearm as long as they have a police or military Sample letter. When they give up the Class 3 SOT or FFL, they must give the firearm to the Police or sell it to another Class 3 SOT holder along with the sample letter.

No they didn't, they used 2 illegal sawed off shotguns, a semi automatic pistol caliber carbines, and a handgun that they acquired illegally, as well as had planned on using several bombs that did not work.

An Assault Rifle is a weapon with Burst Fire or Full Automatic Firing capability. Not a Bushmaster .223

Technically, no. By law, an assault rifle is a firearm with semi-automatic fire mode with a detachable magazine.
that is retarded....

under that law a gun such as an svt-40 (not an svt-43 which is full auto) is an assault rifle....

I don't like how people are saying that he used assault rifles. He didn't. THe closest gun he came to use was an Assault Weapon, and the one he had wasn't really all that powerful. It's a hunting weapon. He never even brought the gun inside the school.

An Assault Rifle is a weapon with Burst Fire or Full Automatic Firing capability. Not a Bushmaster .223

The Bushmaster .223 would still have been banned under the assault weapons ban from 2004

It's a semi-automatic civilian grade rifle, it's really no worse than any semi-auto hunting rifle. It just looks scary, that's all.

For the love of God and all things holy, THIS!^^^

Congress, including this moronic, ignorant failure of a woman, passed the "Assault Weapons Ban" based on how scary a weapon looked. Hell, some of them didn't even know what they were banning, as shown in the video.

The ban failed the first time, so bringing it back will only result in another failure.

"HURR DURR IT LOOKS SCARY BAN BAN BAN BAN" is what that law is all about. As I've explained earlier in this thread, those are no more lethal than the average semi automatic hunting rifle. In fact, they're often used as hunting rifles nowadays.
