I seriously don't understand this recent attitude that everything that comes out nowadays that has a predecessor is "just a cheap cash grab". No, really? So when Jackson made the original trilogy, it was simply to please Lord of the Rings fans and not line his pockets. It's a product. Of course it was made with the intention to make money. Everything ever being marketed and sold is a "cash grab".

Also, I REALLY don't get the hate for it being too childish and different than the originals. Again; no duh? Now people are crying that it is TOO similar to the book. If it was all about doom and gloom and saving the world from evil, these same people would be complaining it strayed too far from the book.

"I didn't read the book. This movie wasn't like the old ones and was too childish. I shouldn't have had to read the book to understand that it wasn't supposed to be like the others. I was expecting the same thing since it was in the same universe. Wah." This sense of entitlement is getting old.
I don't know why people think that someone else's creation and work is their own. It's not anybody else's fault that you didn't know what you were getting into when you purchased your ticket to see the show.

I'm not making any arguments against people who didn't like it because of the CGI or because of the added things Jackson threw into the plot, nor the fact that the film is being split into 3 parts, that's a whole different story.

Now sit down and pull your pants back up.

You're right OP, I didn't see a single lightsaber in The Hobbit.

Are my complaints legitimate?

It's the law of the originals-are-better. Also known as original-is-always-better syndrome.

We work in the dark to serve the light.

Honestly, has anybody read the book? It's supposed to be a bit silly. The trolls are supposed to be Cockney. It was a lighthearted adventure novel, not the fantasy epic that was LotR.

Your complaints in this thread are indeed legitimate. You seem to have problems with the actual script and look of characters and how they react to situations as shown in the movie itself. I have no problems with any of your complaints because you aren't just bashing it simply because the overall tone of the movie is different than the previous ones.

You give specific examples of your problems and how they detracted from the movie. I may not entirely agree with everything you said, but I don't have a single problem with any of your complaints.
