I play my guitar for about 2-3 hours every day. Obviously some days I can't play it, but that's pretty average for me. My first guitar was a crappy First Act acoustic, but now I've moved on to an Art & Lutherie acoustic and a Gibson Les Paul standard electric. If you get an electric guitar, all you need is a small amplifier, and most amps come with a headphone jack or external jack which allows you to use headphones. That might actually be the best option. However, if you're just getting started on guitar, I would recommend you start off on acoustic. The reason why is because when people start off on electric, all they want to do is shred notes and be all cool and whatnot. With an acoustic, it really teaches you the fundamentals of guitar, and it's really hard to shred on an acoustic because they're not made for that. It forces you to learn what you need to learn first.
