>Halo 4 expecting you have a little knowledge of the novels, but that much. You can still understand the main storyline).

"OMMMGGG 343 are garbage storytellers, they can't explain everything in the game! They expect us to be versed in the EU!"

>People are now saying that you are dumb and don't deserve to post criticism of the Hobbit if you haven't read the book

"You call yourself a fan? How can you criticize this movie if you haven't read the books, troll?" (Even though a movie should stand on its own)

I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

Because Halo 4 is not a book adaptation.

I didn't realize that just because a movie is an adaptation of a book means you HAVE to have read the book to judge the movie.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

As a fan of the Halo lore I LOVED the fact that if you have not read the books you were bound to be confused in Halo 4.

Something Bungie failed to do was nod to their lore and backstory. 343 has proven themselves more than capable storytellers.

Hell, Bungie did the opposite of staying true to their lore with Reach the game.

So I can't judge the movie's overlong length, shoddy and abundant CGI, and annoying characters (one of which wasn't even in the Hobbit novel anyways), without reading the book?

Same with the Didact.

I would hardly say 343 are capable storytellers, just because they nodded to lore. The retconning and changes make them look extremely lazy.

If that's how you feel, I'll call Jackson in the morning and tell him to disregard the book and start adding unicorns with lazers and mermaids that can't swim.

I don't see you doing anything to help our country.
Except sitting at home, naked, eating twinkies, rubbing your hands together going "Heh. Target Destroyed. Mission Accomplished." Oh wait. that's not helping.

So by writing a story in which only maybe 1/4 of the audience could understand properly 343i is in fact the better story teller, as opposed to Bungie who made a great story and expanded it with the books. The books are meant for expansion, not plot points. Oh and the Forerunner saga contradicts the game in quite a few spots, which is rather funny.

Way to completely and utterly miss the point.

oh I'm sorry if you're too lazy to read the books you've had 10 YEARS to read, I thought that by the 4th game you'd be invested in the universe and thought "gee, I've heard about these books that explain the universe I guess I should read them If I want to get the full story!

^^^ the thing I've been saying to every person who complains about halo 4 needing background Knowledge and probaby the same thing LOTR people have been saying to people who complain about the hobbit

My favorite complaints about the Hobbit are people claiming the film is garbage because several characters were added that "were not in the book!"

I really wish I could personally ask them "Did you really think they wouldn't add anything for Hollywood" while pointing and laughing at them. Also, the people whining about the Necromancer's appearance are not true fans of Tolkien's work. If they were they'd understand Jackson is not just making a film adaptation to the Hobbit, but hes also linking the Hobbit to the Lord of the Rings. Something Tolkien also did, many years after the Hobbit was published. Fake fans whining about something they know nothing about.

To be honest, I enjoy a story that requires prior knowledge. For example, the new movie about Lincoln. It was all about him and his effort to pass the 13th Amendment. Very historically accurate to the point of utter dryness at points. I loved it for that.

Some people got up and walked out because it was not a mindless bloodbath of a Civil War movie. Still, you had to know your stuff to fully appreciate the movie. The same could be said about Halo 4.

First off, I love how you're insulting others and claiming that if you hadn't read the books, you're not a true fan. I'll go about using that reasoning in Halo threads.

Are my complaints not legitimate?

This is what I have gotten out of you. In fact, you say the movie should step a bit away from the book? Well here's a list of changes from the book to the film:

He's saying that reading the book shouldn't be a requirement to enjoy the film. Not that the movie should be different from the book.........

You don't have to read The Hobbit to enjoy the film. But just because you haven't read The Hobbit doesn't mean the film shouldn't follow the same tone as the book in order to be more serious or whatever. The film is based off the book, you don't need to read the book. BUT if you are genuinely interested in why Peter Jackson directed the film in such a different way to the LotR trilogy the book will explain this to you.

Also its quite a good book.
