We are currently living in harsh times where we can't be safe anymore, where someone will be ready to take everything from you for no reason or cause and no matter the ammount of weapons we buy, they might not be with us at all times.

Is there something else we can do to increase your chances of survival?

I was a regular kid with a problematic young brother who got bullied for enjoying life and I was the powerless big brother who could not help him to defend himself.

One day my father got fed up of us being "not man enough" to stand our ground, so, he put us in a school of martial arts, I'm not gonna lie, it didn't turn us into Goku, nor a Jedi-like fighters but it did a great change in our lifes. It helped us to believe in ourselves, it teached us to face our fears and protect our loved ones if we could help them. We were trained in the arts of hand to hand combat, how to keep our cool and light head in moments of stress (it you lose control of yourself in moments of chaos, your chances of survival go really down) but when you're in control of yourself your chances of survival grow big time.

But we didn't learn only how to fight and keep it cool, we also learned humbleness, learn that when you're trained to fight you have the upper hand most of the times and you have not to abuse it, but use it to help others in need.

We finally stopped being fearful, we didn't came back to take revenge, we learned patience and we tried to avoid the bullies, until we were forced to defend ourselves. I gotta admit it, we kicked their ass real good and felt very good, but I personally felt how easy our places could be changed, we had the chance to be their bullies now, we know how to "kick ass" but we didn't, instead we decided to help our friends when they needed us the most. This actually helped us more times, from being mugged and from being attacked from drunk trouble makers.

Also it help us to stay in good health and in balance with our lives. This doesn't mean we are unbeatable or that we can be super heros, we are just as fragil as anyone else. Our teacher always taught us that there's always gonna be someone stronger than you, no matter how hard you train, the point is never stop training and not fight just to show people how strong you are.

Now I can tell I can walk fearless and I walk confident that I will know what to do if something bad happens, because I'm prepared to face the uncertainity of life and I have peace of mind my brother is ready too for the harsh ways of life.

Have you ever trained in martial arts? Do you like them? Do they worked for you, or do you think they are just an asian scam?

What kind of martial art did you trained?

I trained in the japanese martial art of Karate Do.

How about you?

P.S. Sorry for any typos. ;p

I'm practicing mixed martial arts. I'm glad it has helped you just as it has me.

I know everything, I've just forgotten most of it.

Also, my XBL Gamertag is 'Wenggh', not 'A Stolen Fruit'.

I'm a Blue Belt in Taekwon Do, and I love it!

Although, I do a more sporty version of Taekwon Do, rather than a more serious version of it, but I still know how to defend myself!

It goes:

White
Yellow
Green
Blue
Red
Black

With Stripes in between like Yellow Stripe, which is before Yellow belt!

Signatures are for little kids.

Sounds like you went to a really good school that focused on important things that are sometimes left out of martial arts schools.

Having respect for others, self esteem, and I heard the bit about someone else always being faster, stonger or whatever from my own martial arts school.

I went to the same school for 16 years and got as far as first degree black belt (one more test to be Sensi), it helped me in so many ways. Glad to see martial arts helped you and your brother too OP.

Brown
Black and it's stages.

I'm a noob white, nearly yellow!

Break down, every single one of you.

I have a yellow belt in karate. I actually earned it about a month ago in Karate class. Even got a college credit for it, too. I am taking the next course this coming semester. I am hoping to have an high orange belt before I graduate. There really isn't a reason for me to take this class, but I enjoy it. It also helps blow off some steam.

Yeah I was lucky, my teacher went to study in Japan. I guess his training was more deep and profesional than just a job. He has 4 stripes on his black belt, he has a great condition to be 60, he is stronger than any 20 or 30 year old person.

He loves martial arts and its true meaning.

Is food a Level 2 code for the Level 1 code word "package" which is code for your balls?

Butt ugly ape” remarked Sergeant Johnson always making fun out of the situation even though he had been hit by a spiker round in the arm. He mustered up the strength to continue and the team moved on. The Arbiter informed him that the next room held The Prophet of Truth and this was the final room before extraction. Jun proposed that he takes a shot from a distance the prophet and they all head back to the ship bay for extraction. The team agreed on this and breached the last door…

I take Sho Nan Ryu Karate.

Brown belt.

Love those deep stances.

For me was:

White
Purple
Yellow
Orange
Blue
Brown
Black

To earn each new level we had to fight against our teacher, althoug he never touched us, the test was for us to take him down using what he taught us, which was very difficult because he moved super fast and it was difficult to get him.

Most of the times he just counter us by using our own balance and threw us back to the floor with no problem at all.

For black belts we had to fight in teams of 2 against him and still it was difficult as hell, I personally spend 6 months stuck in Orange belt until I managed to land a nice punch on his iron belly! o_O

Whoops, I meant my foot. It's hard to practice karate when it hurts to kick someone.

White belt in the Japanese Art of Shorin Ryu.

But even before I took karate, no one dared to bother me, not even bullies.

Giggity Giggity Goo - Quagmire

I was in Taekwondo from kindergarten to my freshman year of high school. It was a good work out, but it didn't really affect my self esteem any.
I got my first degree black belt. I was supposed to test for my second but I went out for baseball and never went back to Taekwondo after that.

Our belt system was:
White
Yellow
Orange
Green
Blue
Brown
Red
Recommended Black(half red half black)
Black and then the different degrees with it being mandatory to wait a couple years in between each degree with it being longer with each degree. The Taekwondo I was part of was the National Federation and is the offical one. I know there is a lot of private dojos that aren't official and they do things differently. I had the teacher of one of the private ones in one of my college classes and the way he described it they didn't learn that much compared to us. Once when I was little and probably about a orange belt I got to visit the U.S. Taekwondo olympic training center in Colorado and watch the athletes there spar.

Be not afraid, for the forest nymphs have taught me how to pleasure a women.

Most people's ideas of martial arts aren't really martial arts.

Black belt in TKD...and I consider it a sport. Not a martial art. Will it help me in a fight? Yeah. Is it anything like devoting your life to the full study of kung fu? Hell no.
