Subject: A proposal for the American K-12 school system

Giggity Giggity Goo - Quagmire

I know my cousins in Arizona who are in the public school system go year round, but they end up having more time off then we do overall. They only go about 177 days a year. So there are already states that do this.

I would forget what they taught me after a week of not doing work. After small breaks, I still forget some material. June off, well I mean you'll then again forget the material. Your point is trying to stop us from forgetting material, sadly it doesn't do that. At least not for me.

really

UK has a lot of breaks scattered along the year and we are better renowned for schooling and education than the US ever was

Quote from Confucius

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

I get distracted when I'm in a holdiday or in a break and having one every month.....my grades will drop

No, that sounds like I would hate it. I enjoy my long break as it gives me time to get non school related things accomplished.

Really?

A lot of other students I talk to complain of being bored about 6 weeks into summer break.

anyone who was bored during summer break was insane tbh.

When I was in school I could not wait for those glorious 3 months away from hell on earth. Then when they ended it was awful knowing I'd have to go back.

GOAT

I think mid June and all of July should be off, and school should return early August.

You would never actually get a vacation then, because you know how teachers like to give you -blam!- on your time off

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

Or they could teach things that are relevant and useful in everyday life. Just food for thought.

Thats how british schools work, we have:

3 half term breaks that last a week.

Christmas and easter holidays which last 2 weeks each.

and a summer holiday which is 6 weeks off.

I am a pharmaceutical scientist. I received my Masters degree in Pharmaceutics from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2010, after working as a Pharmacist for 4 years. I currently work in King of Prussia, PA, and focus on the analytical chemistry of small molecule APIs. My clients include some of the most well known big pharma companies in the world.

There are 365 days in a year, or 52 weeks in a year.
In the American school system, students spend 180 days a year in school, or 36 weeks.

With a 5 day schoolweek, that's 36 weeks of school, coupled with 16 weeks of time off. Normally, students have the months of June, July, and August off. That's about 12 weeks of time off, and the other 4 weeks are spaced throughout the year.

Having 12 straight weeks of time off presents problems. Students often forget much of the material they have learned during this time. It's very counterproductive.

Simple proposal; what if the time is split up more evenly throughout the year? Let's keep the current system of 36 weeks of school, and 16 weeks of time off. You could try something like
- 1 week off every month, plus 4 extra weeks for other holidays.
or
- June and December off, and 1 week off roughly every 5 weeks.
or
any other variation you can suggest

The Flood is mostly made of students, so what do you guys think of this?
You're basically describing year-round schools, which do still exist.
