I do agree but you can blame this on the culture in which women are not seen as heroes.

Alyx isn't even a character. She's a bland, uninteresting npc that shows up a couple times to magically unlock a door for you or to be essentially useless.

Have you played the episodes? Alyx really grows on you. She is one of the only characters that acts like a real human being. She is not the most powerful or the most useful, but she is human.

Somebody showed me the Scarab Gun in Halo 2 once.
I was like WHOA DUDE, WHOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAA
Then I sorta blanked out in a red haze and when I came to, everyone was dead.

"Strong/powerful" female charactersBella Swan
Wait, what?

as a vampire she is able to rip apart a wolf and beat practically any superpowered person in her universe

That's just the nature of being a "vampire" in that dumb series. And besides, she spends four films being utterly useless.

To be honest, she's a really poor character to represent "strong/powerful" females in films. >_>

Hold it right there.

Hello. Name's Brian. Look, if you're looking for a flame war with me, just open up the Flood and write up some not-nice things about religion and I'll bring my nukes to the party.

If you want some other way to contact me, you can forget it.

If you're interested in some of my work, you can check my homepage out.

Books... Hm... Not many "powerful women" in there. There are some inspiring ones, but they're not strong in the sense that they're the one's kicking the ass.

In anime, Saber and Blue Rose come to mind. There are definitely more, but I can't remember right now.

I do hate it when anyone tries to make a woman seem more 'powerfull / important' then how they should behave. Their character must accord with their role and it looks like this is harder for females then for males.

As an example I'd like to suggest looking at Rihanna at the battleship movie. The role she played was just hilarious. Hurr look at me guise I'm so tough lol I'm so edgy look at my dresscode I r soldier grrl.

Marine Corps.
Semper Fi.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

I would attribute it to the the way the females are being presented. It is difficult to take someone seriously when they are being displayed as a sex icon.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Jaina Solo from Star Wars isn't too bad.

This too. I hate seeing women in oddly revealing armor or battle garments while trying to prove that they can fight just as well as men. Just dress normally; unless you need to have the audience distracted so they can't notice your poor-ass development.

What about Hermione?

  • 12.19.2012 12:38 AM PDT

If only they did...

  • 12.19.2012 12:38 AM PDT

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

I disagree, Faith from Mirror's Edge has more balls than "SO MANLY" Marcus Fenix meathead from Gears Of War.

Don't punch a British kid, the queen'll come after you.

I sort of see where you're coming from.

With many strong independent woman characters the writing is so held up in the fact that they're breaking the mould and everything that they forget to add anything else to the character.

That is not to say that the concept is bad.

A real test of a man is if he is willing to scrape a sharpened razor up and down his junk just to please a woman.

Ugh... Kagome's official name sucks so bad...

In spanish "cagame" means "crap on top of me", so the traduction of Kagome's name instead was "Ahome", which sounds like Ah-oh-meh, and is a much better name for a woman.

Join the Halo Haven group!

that's funny you should say that OP, because if you want my honest opinion (chances are you don't) then i'd say that kreia from kotor 2 was one of the best characters of any game, ever.

despite looking as if she was a feeble old woman, she was one of the strongest characters canon wise and pretty badass despite loosing a hand.

maybe i'm wrong, i do agree with all of the examples you provided, they do suck, but i would generalise on this topic, as it's just the movie industry trying to be politically correct.

i disagree, but then i dont really like the eu after episode 6, so i'm being incredibly biased here. i wont try and back up my objection, as i really cant think of any reasons, but i just didnt think any of the solo or skywalker children fit the style of star wars very well at all.

Females/Males complaining about the over--blam!-izations of women in video games need to be quiet in my opinion.

Video Games in general -blam!-ize everyone equally, no one wants to play/ see an ugly/fat male/female. Hence why characters like Nathan Drake look like perfect men that came straight out of a commercial, and why men like Kratos run around in his birthday suit (basically) with his six pack looking awesome, and men like Master Chief are just bad *****.

This. The female characters in Forward unto dawn and palmer are just ridiculous.
