Am I supposed to write something funny here?

What about female characters in nBSG? Starbuck, Kat, Roslin, Cain...

I have a problem with terrible characters in general. But, I do agree that it's strangely more annoying when a women is shoved into a leadership role...just so that she can be a 'strong woman' type. I mean, that 'strong macho man' isn't exactly a saving grace on its own, but at least it tends to be more fitting.

The Snow Leopard's wisdom includes: Understanding one's shadow-side; trusting one's inner-self; agility; strength; the ability to stalk; understanding the power of silence.

Movies are typically the worst things to judge, as only sex appeal and violence sell. When you've got a female character, you need to overdo it to keep men entertained.

Korra from avatar basically the plot solved easily for her becuase she was OMG SO SPECIAL and the avatar!!!, and the ending was a Deus Ex machina. She literally didn't sacrifice anything to save the day...Even her love rival and the secondary villain sacrificed more than her for a greater good.
Oh hell nah!

This is pretty much my entire reasoning for not visiting the movie theater.

Entirely disagree with this one.

1. She IS special. She's the avatar. You know, bridge between the spirit and mortal world? Master of all 4 elements? The one who can bring balance to the world?

2. She lost her avatar power to Amon when he took away her bending. After mastering all the airbending forms she finally unlocked it when she needed it the most. She still had lost her connection to the other 3. But because the show was originally planned to have that one season, they weren't just gonna end it there and say "She failed!" Also it makes sense that Aangs ability to bend the spirit would carry over to the spirit world.

To be fair, he could be talking about the sexism coming from users other than the OP, of which there is quite a great deal in this thread.

I beg your pardon? In the end of season 1 he turns into a giant fish spirit and wipes out the entire fire nation naval battalion that was attacking the northern water tribe using his avatar powers. So yeah, it's the same thing. Korra still has 3 more seasons to go.

Dear twilight hater. You could argue that Stephanie Meyer did a poor job. But she is intended to be strong in breaking dawn at the very least.

So yeah she is a "strong character" done poorly

"Strong/powerful" female charactersBella Swan
Wait, what?

as a vampire she is able to rip apart a wolf and beat practically any superpowered person in her universe

That's just the nature of being a "vampire" in that dumb series. And besides, she spends four films being utterly useless.

To be honest, she's a really poor character to represent "strong/powerful" females in films. >_>

Oh hes you heard right.

Aang was suffering from day one, he was basically a freaking kid that had to face rhe guilt of running away and had to take care of himswlf and other 2 kids, with zero money or experience at all... Al while being chased by the fire nation.

Korra has trouble understanding the concept of "paying" for your food and even admitted that thy gave her everything free just becuase she was the avatar.

Her greatest moral dilema was not accepting expensive gifts from Tarlok... Wow big deal.

Asami sato did more than her to save the day but she didn't get anything just because she wasn't the avatar.

2.- When he turnedd into a fish, the plot was actually at it's worst ... The moon spirit was dead... The fish didn't solve the plot ... It only showed that the earth spirit was pissed.

Yue was the one solving the issue of the moons spirit being dead.

Octavia is best pony.

When any character, regardless of gender, is shoved into a role that they aren't suited for, it usually ends up terrible. However, I've seen multiple examples of female characters who seem ideally suited for the "powerful/strong" archetype (i.e. Renee Montoya).

I never said that she has been through more than Aang did, I'm just pointing out that your statement that being the Avatar solved everything is easily connectable to season 1 of TLA, which it is.

Debatable.Even then it was Yue the one saving the day not Aang. Een with the avatar state he was pretty much screwed with out the moon spirit.

The price was Yue's life as a mortal. That isn't an easy solution to me.

Even then Season 2 didn't have an easy way out.

Season 3 had aang facing the moral dilema of kling or not the fire lord.

It isn't fair to bring the second and third season into the argument when Korra has only aired one season.

And I wouldn't say Yue saved the day. Should could have restored the moon spirit and the water tribe would have likely still lost had Aang not gone into the Avatar State.

Obviously the world would be pretty messed up had she not made that sacrifice regardless. It's a different situation. Apples and oranges I'd say.

Korra's villains basically defeated themselves...

To me the comparision is fair as both characters are the avatar.

But if you want to be more "fair" Asami Sato was much more heroic than Korra and the plot resarded her with no money no boyfriend and no father.

I thought this thread was referring to characters like Palmer but this works to. What I don't think you are getting is that most of those characters are just the subject of bad writing and bad writing is pretty of the downfall of everything. What about Samus or Jade from beyond good and evil? They legitimately kick ass.

Those two are just 2 from video games I can name far more, but on the topic of DC what about Raven from Teen titans? I'm pretty sure you would not be hard pressed to find someone who thinks of her as the best DC hero. Wonder woman just never gets any good writing and like a lot of DC heros she is lame as hell.
