You just made me laugh so hard.

If you don't know Game of Thrones, you cant make this argument. Alot of the female characters are "stronger" then the male characters, and all the characters are strong in some way or another. Once you have watched the show, or read the books, you can come back to this argument, which you wont need to.

Reachhhhhhhh

Female characters that have more of a focus on them being female than the actual character I do not respect.

Male protagonists usually make you think "he is doing this to make life better for other people". When I see a female protagonist, I think "she is doing this to prove men wrong".

Who's more relatable?

I don't feel one way or the other about female heroes. I'm indifferent about them.

There just aren't enough moments in the day to rectify the wrongs of the past.

You dont find very many strong female leads then. Try Lightning from Final Fantasy, or Lara Croft, or Detective Beckett from Castle. Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in The Shell is another great example. Most characters are constantly struggling with an inner darkness that twisted their past and molded them into the person they are now.

True that sometimes the characters arent developed properly, but for me, its always more fun playing as a strong female role in a game, or watching one in a movie. For being a guy, its like looking beyond a mirror and seeing something entirely mind-bending, and there are many more examples of powerful women characters that i could list, but not right now. So while i partially agree with you, i disagree more.

I have to agree with the OP's premise, at least in part.

Women in gaming was a foreign concept not that long ago and only recently did we see more representation presented for female gamers to even emerge, much less supporting characters.

Developers are still new to the experience and have been attempting to serve this new audience. The problem is that some are doing it rather poorly, substituting character depth for just badassitude. The case could be made for Gears of War 3 with the introduction of Anya and Sam but that ultimately plays to the game's overaching tone and theme.

That's not to say that all developers are failing at this regard. Some are making complex female characters, at least in supporting roles. The eight pages before me have seen to that at least.

What about Tela Vasir in Lair of the Shadow Broker?

...But she was the villain though...

Also Aria from Mass Effect.

While I like (well, more love) strong female characters, I don't like that they are always associated with these sexist morals either.

Miranda from Mass Effect is such an example. You first meet her to be a strong independent woman and then it turns out she secretly always wanted a child and only cares for her family. Well, -blam!- you too BioWare.

How about Samus Aran?

Strong, silent, but not overly feministic. Just does her duty to save the universe (and as a bounty hunter, knows that the rules that common military and police forces are subject to follow can become limiting).

That's inspiring.
