They made a calendar end just so that they could troll us 5 centuries later

I hope it was worth it

That stone tablet could've been used to teach children you know, instead of wasting it on some prank

It's all mass-hysteria, it'll blow over one week after the 21th and we'll anticipate the next time earth dies.

This is no prank.

What happens after the end of my calender?

"Hey Steve, I think you've done enough work on the calendar for a while. We're nowhere even near 2012 yet."
"Good point. I'll keep working on it next year."
Then he died.

Break down, every single one of you.

One family invited my family over for a Christmas party. A third family is planning on taking it over and turning it into an End of the World party. They even bought a zombie cookie cutter.

I persist too long after my own defeat,
Yet I still press forward, staggering on my feet.
But I know that my resolution will be my end.
And once I fall, I shall ruefully transcend.

Meh

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

Fun fact, the calendar doesn't end at 13.0.0.0.0 (21 december 2012), but at 13.0.0.0.0.0.0.0. (the year 400 million)

Doesn't say it ends there

The world isn't gonna end the magnetic polls are gonna shift North will become South and South will become North so to speak, it's a quite common occurrence in Earth history
besides in the Bible it says "no man shall know" so if everybody is saying the world will end on that day you can be pretty sure it won't.... though it might end the day after when you least expect it muwahahaha

As far as I know they never thought of leap years.

If you're a zombie and you know it, bite your friends.

The Flood Theory of Deterioration: q(p)=(qi)e^(-p/r)

Where q(p) is the quality of the thread as a function of p posts, (qi) is the inital quality of the first post, p is the amount of posts and r is the e-peen of the original poster.

That's because what he said in his first post is wrong. The end of the 13th Baktun is when that 'Age of Mankind' ends. As the calendar resets the following day the next 'Age of Mankind' begins.

My bad, I linked the wrong article;
Here is the relevant part:
If the numbers indeed represent days, the largest entry in the table, 2,448,420, lies thousands of years in the future.
It isn't eactly 400 million like in the wikipedia article, but if you 'complete' the mayan date, you get 13.0.0.0.0.0.0.0..

I actually read about this in eos (the Dutch version of scientific american), but I can't show you the article.
Here is the Abstract:
Eind december 2012 staat de Lange Telling van de Maya's voor de tweede keer in hun geschiedenis op 13.0.0.0.0. Maar in tegenstelling tot westerse doemdenkers verwachten de Maya's helemaal geen apocalyps. Hun kalender raakt van slag bij het getal 13, maar telt nog miljoenen jaren door.

Translation: At the end of december 2012, the long count of the mayas reaches 13.0.0.0.0 for the 2nd time in history... Their calendar gets confused by the number 13, but continues to count for millions of years

The calendar doesn't end at all. It was made so that it rolls over and can go on forever.
