While I was trying to go to sleep I had a breakthrough in thought. The subject I was contemplating was that of the European Union. The Nation. See the European Union has very similar high laws (laws that matter). Every state within the EU has made executions of the most wretched criminals illegal (it's actually a pre-requisite upon joining) and every state within the EU has made it illegal to deny genocide (particularly for their own insecurity and rather frail and brittle history)

Moving on to the point, this in a lot of ways resembles the state and federal laws of the United States. The Federal Laws are the High laws (the laws that matter) and the state laws are there as frivolous small things that keep the common people distracted from the big and important things.

Pressing forward the invention of the Euro unified the EU further, making the bonds even tighter. Smooth transactions across most of the continent, much like how you can pick up a U.S. dollar in new york and spend it in san francisco without a problem. You can now pick up a Euro in Ireland and Spend it in Athens, Greece. Not mentioning the military unification. Every member of the EU is part of the same military mind. Just like every state in the U.S. contributes forces to the federal cause.

I knew I smelled a nation when I researched the EU.

Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

Yeah, the EU is essentially like the United States, except that the nations in the EU retain a lot more independence.

Dunno what we're meant to be discussing, but.

A lot of people don't know this garshne, and there's the fact that they try to hide the fact that they're pretty much a nation without a name/boundary.

I wouldn't call the EU a nation while we still call the UK and Germany nations. And also while the nations of the EU still retain such independence.

I'd have to check for sure, but I think that nations can pull out from the EU, seeing as you need to be allowed in anyway.

And states in the United States can recede from the U.S. and they also have some level of independence. The last time states tried to split there was a civil war.

It's not on any official map I've ever seen, the name and boundary.

That doesn't seem like they're allowed to, though.

And we don't call them nations, either.

The difference between the EU and the United States is that the US shares a common heritage as a former colony, while the EU has many different cultures without a true shared 'ancestor culture', as it were. Even if there was, it's far too long ago to culturally link all these countries.

As for being far to long ago, not long enough for the languages to change completely, I hear that those who know latin can understand a lot of 'french, english, spanish etc.' and also not long enough for those nations to try and style themselves off of what rome was.

By popular vote we can, quebec in Canada was trying to recede from Canada recently if I remember correctly. Also most of Europe has a common ancestor of Rome.
