I currently attend a local branch of a bigger college and am wanting to transfer to Ohio State next Fall.

I have completed 22 credit hours so far (9 of them were in high school). I have passed all classes and have a 2.9 overall GPA. 2.9 GPA since graduation as well. You need to complete 30 credit hours for them not to factor in high school GPA and ACT scores.

I have to apply by February. I am wondering if you guys think I will get accepted or if I shouldn't even waste my money on the application.

I also worked for a tree service over the summer and am going to get a job soon, if this matters. Also, is there anything I can do to look more competitive? What majors typically get accepted easier than others? I am also considering taking Army ROTC as an elective.

Perhaps you are better off cutting trees.

I know that some school will not allow transfers if you have less than a 3.0 gpa. I would suggest looking into Ohio State's requirements.

Degree's that are easy to get into, don't have job openings when you finish your degree..

Also, those credits you earned in high school, if they were AP classes, they won't count for full college courses, and you'll still have to take a ton of classes. If they were completed for an associates degree while you were in high school, then you might get lucky and they'll count some of them.

Only credits from your Major are most likely to transfer, unless the college you are currently attending is part of Ohio State, then almost all of the credits should transfer.

If you want to get an easy degree, don't waste your time going to college. If you just want to skate by, stick with cutting down trees.

No employer that requires a college education is looking for someone to skate by.

Protip: Don't just go to your classes and do the work, you have to find other opportunities to make your resume stand out. Like going to conventions, doing research, and giving presentations at conventions.

2.9 still isn't good for a transfer from any school. 3 is pretty much the very minimum for most university or state schools. If you have a ton of community service or extracirriculars they could possibly make up for it though.

Frankly I think you should consider if you're making enough money as it is. If you can get a steady job then a degree isn't all that important, and just going for bare minimums doesn't get you far in higher education.

They were considered classes for the school I go to now.

I was just asking so I wouldn't pick a major that could end up -blam!- me.

He was just trying to make me look stupid so he can feel better about himself.

I was making $8/hr... I'm definitely getting my degree, I just would have loved to attend OSU.

For my degree, I only need like 6 hours of electives. Those classes were filled by requirements to graduate, so I didn't even get the opportunity to take easy A elective classes.

I assume you are attending one of Ohio State's branch campuses (Newark, Mansfield, etc)? If so, it's a bit more simple to transfer to main campus from those feeder campuses than another school all together (I'm a Columbus native, but attended the University of Dayton).

First off, don't listen to most of these guys about schools only accepting certain GPA's with transfers. Yes, it's a factor, but yours isn't nearly low enough. As far as getting an edge on the transfer process, I would just ask as many questions from their office as you can before you officially apply for transfer. Worst case scenario they will give you tips and advice on what to submit, how to submit it, and how to make it look the best. Best case scenario is that one of them is friendly and takes a liking to you and personally pushes it through him or herself.

If college (of which I am a recent graduate) taught me anything it's that those who ask questions are better prepared and ALWAYS succeed. If your department sees that you are struggling , but also sees that you are making a very real effort to do what you can, they will cut you A LOT of slack, even as far as creating independent study classes for you (this was the case for me when they didn't offer a class I needed to graduate my last semester). So speak up, be heard, and ask, ask ask!

If you want to go, then apply. Even if your marks aren't the best you still have a chance, go to the college and look at their requirements, and talk to you councelors, not the flood. Marks aren't everything, especially if your already in the district.

As for majors, you really should look at what kinds of careers they offer and decide based on that rather than what is going to be the easiest, since a degree you won't use later on isn't going to be worth it. The best advice i can give you is to not hesitate to ask for help from the college staff, its their job to help you figure this out.

I just came here because I knew you guys would be strait with me.

Also, I didn't mean I was going to pick an easy major. Sorry for the confusion. I just don't want to pick a major that will severely hurt my chances of getting accepted. I'm already pretty sure what degree I want but I didn't know if going Undecided first would be better.

Hypothetically speaking, if your GPA is competive and you have an argument for getting in, and assuming degrees have different acceptance rates. You could apply for the "easy to get into degree" then just take general requirements and switch your major after a semester or two.

The circumstances are simple: An inability to maintain a B average in what should be easy general education classes.

Call it harsh or whatever you will, but if you are having a tough time in general education classes, you probably aren't going to have the easiest time in any decent major.

I call things as I see them.

Nobodies ever going to admit it, but I could see it happening. I've heard people say they were going to apply for nursing (I think it was) at U of M then switch. I've also heard people have their theories on how they were going to apply and let them know they want to be a male cheerleader, thus giving them an edge. haha, do what you have to do.

That is a best case scenario. But just to make sure OP, that's not something you can do over the phone. Setup an appointment with an advisor.
