For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.
While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.
And assault rifles aren't available. The rifle everyone is panicking about is just a Bushmaster .223 hunting/sport rifle.
Assault rifles aren't available because they have to have select-fire capabilities to be labelled an assault rifle. Weapons with collapsible stocks aren't assault rifles. To get an assault rifle, you have to get a tax stamp approved by the ATF, which can take up to a year. Then, you have to find a transferable receiver (registered and produced before May 1986, when production of full-auto capable receivers were banned for manufacture to sell to civilians), because civilian rifles, like the Bushmaster, are not made for full-auto fire. The internal dimensions and designs are completely different.

He's not going to ban guns, he 's going to ban certain guns that are causing crime and we don't need.
Well the shooter only used handguns and I doubt those are going to be banned.
Also, you can use any weapon to commit a crime, why does it matter if a certain one is banned?
Its much easier to kill a crowd of people with an assault rifle than a hand gun.
