I am a pharmaceutical scientist. I received my Masters degree in Pharmaceutics from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2010, after working as a Pharmacist for 4 years. I currently work in King of Prussia, PA, and focus on the analytical chemistry of small molecule APIs. My clients include some of the most well known big pharma companies in the world.
I'll try to keep this short, but I am writing this on behalf of the elementary school up the street from me.
On my way home from work today, I get a call from my mother, who was very distraught coming home from her job (she's a teacher's aide at the elementary school). Apparently, she was in the front office this morning doing paperwork when the district superintendent walked in the room. He apparently has a reputation for being an A-Hole, and his comment to the women in the room, was "Well, looks like you 3 are the first to get killed if Sandy happens here".
My first reaction was laughter out of complete shock, but honestly, it's his job to make sure the schools are safe, and to make a ignorant comment like that in the workplace, in my mind, is grounds for firing. When you don't know any of the women on a personal level and you just make that kind of a comment, it just says to me that absolutely no thought is going on in that idiot's brain, and he's supposed to essentially be the top guy taking care of all the teachers and children.
Now, as I am not an employee of the school, I cannot do anything about this, but seeing as how the offender was the superintendent of the district, who do you report him to? I want action to be taken on this, and I've said as much to my mother; his behavior is simply intolerable. It's not about being overly sensitive, it's just plain wrong to just talk about someone's life with such disregard when they work for you.
Sorry if it came off as a rant. Just hoping someone has a good idea on how to seriously handle this situation so that ignorant comments like his won't be made in the future, because that doesn't give many of the employees a sense of security at the school.
