Subject: Are you... Are you -blam!- kidding me?

"Major corporations, including the video game industry, make billions on marketing and selling violent content to children. They have a responsibility to protect our children. If they do not, you can count on the Congress to take a more aggressive role," Rockefeller said in a statement.

No, no they don't Mr. Rockefeller. They aren't selling video games to little children, and it's not their responsibility to "protect our children".

Yes, they release games, but are they selling directly to kids? Are they forcing kids to buy the games? NO!

And to say that somehow it's the responsibility of these companies to safeguard the kids and protect them is utter bull-blam!-. They're responsibility is to make, publish, and release games.

You know who owns this responsibility? The parents! HEAVEN FORBID that parents actually take responsibility and raise their kids. It's not the job of the companies to do this. We have an ESRB which is simple enough for even stupid people to comprehend so when a kid wants to buy a game that has an "M" or "AO" rating on it the parent will say "oh hell nah" and not buy it. It's the duty of the PARENTS to monitor what their child should play and even more importantly to teach their kids right from wrong, what's real and what's fantasy.

People are blaming the shooting on video games. Well if video games had anything to do with it, who we really should be blaming is not the games, but the parents.

The Flood is just this awesome :D

The media blaming video games for the recent violent killings? What a surprise!

  • 12.19.2012 3:47 PM PDT

It's the game company's fault. They really should be making less violent video games.

Do we really need games where we kill?

I'm 18 so I don't really care. I think it should be mandatory though for stores to request a parent if under 17 or 18 trying to buy an M rated game.

Currently studying Computer Science & Software engineering. Hope to work on mobile devices of the future! When a certain game's credits roll, look out for my name! ;)

You will -blam!- bricks when you see what game it is! =)

Hey, hey parents - you know those letters/numbers in the corner of the game boxes? Yeah? WELL THEY HAVE A FREAKING MEANING!!!

  • 12.19.2012 3:48 PM PDT

This angers me.

100% agree. Parents need to play a role.

The ESRB is there for a reason. If an adult buys the game and allows their child to play it, there's no way to stop that.

Parents just need to do their job for once. You show little Timmy all these images of violence and pass them off as a game, BEFORE he is mature enough to realize that reality and games are two very different things.

Then parents act surprised when little Timmy becomes violent. Face it parents, you screwed up. And now little Timmy is going to be an equally bad parent.

There once was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died.

The end.

SCFH

Blame the parents. I'm pretty sure the games will say "M" on the front. They are the ones buying them, and allowing them to play these games.

This is actually true for Game Stop to my knowledge.

... They do. If you're under 17 they won't sell it to you at all. At least that's how it is in Canada.

To get into an R rated movie, you have to be with a parent, why not the same with buying M rated video games?

Typical, using video games as a scapegoat.

Yeah but there's no set law making them do it, it varies from each store as their policy.

Dunno if serious.

In a sense, no, we don't "need" video games where we kill. But by saying that we don't need video games at all, or any other form of entertainment. Why are they made? Because people buy em. There's a market for violent games.

The fact of the matter is, it's not their fault. Video games are fantasy. Normal people are able to discern fantasy from reality. How are normal people formed? Through parenting mostly. Therefore parents are required to teach their children right from wrong and reality from fantasy so that they don't grow into psychos and what-not.

Better luck next time buddy.

Right, the violence in video games is the reason behind the killing. May'be those guys should look out for more accurate facts to report those acts.
