For anyone who can access and try to understand it, The Antlers' Hospice album is a masterpiece. So much intimacy and unfiltered emotion in every song. There is no other. You'll know by the second or third song if this album is meant for you, and not everyone will understand the emotions behind it, at least not on a personal level, and that's okay.
For those of us that know even a fraction of what he's singing about, it brings you back to a place you never wanted to go. Makes you remember things that are just too terrifying to remember alone. Times when you saw someone or felt yourself absolutely deteriorating in the most literal sense. Every breaking moment from a terrible time comes flooding back to try and lay itself on you all at once, but it's okay because these songs are here as a guide, to bring you through all of it, hurt and touched by those feelings but alive. All of this because these feelings and that period of time happens to too many people, and there are some of us who really need something like this album just to process it all.
I recommend it to anyone who really understands what this is all about.
